More Than Duty

Disclaimer: I remembered recently of a story from fullmetalmarta called 'Kalel Of Krypton' where it was Kara who was raised by the Kents and a fully grown Kal-El later shows up around the time she did in the show and it inspired me to do this. Only with that fic, it was Lois he found himself liking but in this one, its not. Takes place several months after season 1.

"You do know there's more to life then Constant Duty, right?" Asked a lovely Brunette girl as she came up to the one known as Kal-El after noticing how alert and the like he was being while at a lake party of all things.

Who just so happened to be the older cousin of her friend, Karen Kent. Or rather, Kara Zor-El after her older Cousin showed up while the Twisters were happening and dropped a bombshell or two without realizing a number of people weren't fully in the know. Kal-El himself had been meant to be by Karen's side as she grew up but life had deemed otherwise. As he himself would end up in a cryo sleep for years until the Twisters begun to cause havoc, allowing him to finally get free. Kal-El turned to the Brunette, whom was currently in a bathing suit as per the custom when one went swimming. "I am aware, Lana. But when you've lived the life I've lived and been to war, its not easy to forgo such things."

Rao alone knew how his father had driven things like Duty and Obligation into his head growing up. Making it hard for him to be just a boy and make his own choices about his path. Which was why at one point, he had rebelled against his father and joined the Kryptonian Military. Even making the rank of Captain thanks to his surprising prowess for battle and being a leader. The fair Lana Lang gave her friend's Cousin a sad smile. "Maybe not, but being with us will help with that."

That is unless of course, the ghost of Jor-El had his way like he tried with Karen some time ago. But so far, Kal-El was displaying some of that rebelliousness his father had come to strongly dislike over time. Kal-El studied her for a long moment before replying. "Perhaps you most of all can help me with this." He replied.

For since meeting her, the former Captain could not help but feel a pull to her and it seemed as though she felt the same as he. Were his and Kara's people still alive, some would heavily disagree with this but he was never one to care what others thought of him aside from his mother and anyone he considered a true friend. He watched as Lana blushed prettily. "I'd… I'd like that. I'd like that a lot." Lana told him softly.

Taking her hand in his, she squeezed it gently and Kal-El felt… Happy, with such a move. "Hey kids! Food's ready!" Called out Jonathan Kent and unintentionally breaking the moment between the two.

Kal-El frowned at this but Lana squeezed his hand again with a smile. "Its alright, we'll have more moments like this, I'm sure."

"I… I look forward to it."

The full beaming smile from her pleased him more then all his victories during war combined. And later that night, after a little show and tell from Jonathan, young Kal-El, or Clark as he would be called on Earth, learned how to ride a Motorcycle. His first outing being one he and Lana would enjoy immensely and because of this and Mr. Kent's kindness, the young former Captain would forever become a fan of all things Motorcycle.

Author's Notes: Might or might not do more with this, we'll see.
