To Feanor his firstborn now born;
there in the white city of Tirion, of he Feanor spoke him fair,
for Nerdanel daughter of Mahtan he held in love,
whom the
Noldor thought wise and steadfast,
and remembering Finwe his
beloved sire, of all fathers most loved,
he turned not the
children of Indis in contempt away.
There clasped him gently
Maedhros the scion of Curufinwe,
for Nerdanel moved him with
murmured cooing
and he said: "Lo, O son of the spirit of
fire,
the light in bliss, the loyal in need,
Maedhros of the
house of fire, thy home is with me,
and here thou shalt sojourn
and be held my firstborn son.
