"How do I know I can trust you?" Barbara asked.
"Doctor/patient confidentiality. Everything you tell me here stays here. Unless I fear you'll harm yourself and I highly doubt that's going to happen," Dr Lee Thompkins said from her chair facing Barbaras.
Barbara looked at Lee sideways for a moment, weighing her options. There just wasn't anyone else to talk to about this stuff and holding it in any longer might blow up in her face.
With a sigh Barbara said, "Okay I trust you."
[ ]"What brings you in today?" Lee asked.
Barbara hesitated a second and then started. "For the first time in my entire life I'm afraid, I'm distracted and completely unable to do anything but pine for the love of someone who doesn't want me. Relax Lee, I'm not talking about that lump Gordon."
Lee raised her eyebrows and held back a grin. "Go on," she said.
"So there's this girl," Barbara started, "I never know if she's my enemy or my ally. She's betrayed me and saved my life. She's broke my heart and healed it too. She's turned me into this twit sitting here needing advice from the doe eyed doctor!"
"It sounds like you're in love," Lee said.
"I know! And that's the problem! I'm losing my edge! I haven't kicked a drunken asshole out of the club in weeks! I haven't pointed a gun or even check if it's loaded!"
"It's normal to feel this way Barbara," Lee whispered. "Have you talked to her about it?"
Barbara eyes was nearly unreadable as she said, "I can't, she hates me."
