All his friends were married or to be married. Two of them have a kid and are about to have a second. The second married couple is thinking about having kids. It's not going to be long until the engaged couple get married and start thinking of having kids.
And where was he? Right! He was single, living on someone else's house and going nowhere with his career. Everyone knew he was feeling like that and they tried to help. But there was one person who hadn't said anything about it and that person was exactly who he wanted to talk about what was going on.
One day they were all at lunch in the cafeteria. All of them but Leonard. Weird. Usually he's the one that calls us to lunch. Neither of them went and called him because if he wasn't there it was because he was busy. They never call him. He either shows up or his door it's already open. They only called him once. Howard. He called and Penny was in there. They took that as hint not to call him to lunch.
But then dinner came and he wasn't there. He wasn't in the living room and he wasn't in his room. Penny said she hadn't seen him since he left with Sheldon to work.
Later he shows up and asks if I can talk with him, outside.
"Sure" I get up and go. But we don't stop in the hall. We climb the stairs and go to the roof. I don't' like going there. It reminds me of the prom. Reminds me of Emily. Reminds me I'm alone. Alone in a world full of people. Ironic isn't it?
"What do you need? And why are we here?"
"We need to talk"
"About what? And do we really need to be here?"
"Yes. I come here every time something bad happens. Or after a long day. Whenever I just want to hide myself from the world. Well now whenever I come here it's usually when Penny's not around."
"Why?"
"Because she's the person I go to whenever I need to come up here." Leonard admitted
"Really?"
"Yes. Look I know you're scared of being alone forever. But you're not going to."
"Oh, yeah? How do you know what is like to be like this?"
"I know how it is Raj because I went through the same thing. Before Penny came to my life I just thought I was going to live with Sheldon forever. I would be this short, nerdy and single guy. And right now? I live with the most amazing person I ever met and yes I'm still short and a nerd but I'm not single. I'm not alone."
"How is this supposed to help me?"
"You need to go out there to the real world and try. If you just sit around waiting for the right person to show up, then yes, you'll probably die alone. But you need and try. Try to find someone or something to make you happy. It doesn't need to be someone. Just try ok?"
"I'll try. But I won't promise anything"
It took him a while but he finally met the girl. The girl that made him feel safe. The one that made him feel like he wasn't alone. A few months later he made an announcement during dinner.
"I'm asking Amanda to marry me"
"Really!" "Good luck!" "Congratulations!" "Are you sure about it?" That was what he heard
They all hugged him and asked if he had the ring. He said he had it but it was hidden somewhere only he knew.
When he finally proposed she said "Yes! Of course I will!"
On the wedding day when the new husband and wife of the group were talking to guest Raj took a moment to go and talk to Leonard.
"Thanks."
"For what?"
"You know." Both smiled at each other.
After Raj left Penny asked Leonard what all that was.
"Nothing. Don't worry"
Penny shrugged her shoulders and leaned to kiss Leonard on the cheek and put her head in his shoulder while they danced. Leonard kissed her in the hair and looked at Raj who was dancing with his new wife. He smiled and Raj caught it and smiled back. Who would have thought that the 4 nerds from all those years back would be married? No one right? They were wrong.
