I'm Yours
Chapter One – You Saved Me!
Finnick's POV
I was out fishing with my father one day. The day I'll never forget. The sky was a bright blue, not a wisp of cloud in sight and the sun was beaming ferociously on our backs, making the lake warm. This day was beautiful yet uncomfortable. I was holding a huge net for my father while he lectured me on 'the art' of catching fish. "You need to be still, Finnick. Don't move a muscle or you'll scare away the fish! Stay silent, don't say anything, breath quietly and-"
"I'm bored!" I exclaimed. This lecture was soooo tiring. "I don't want to catch fish today! It's too hot!" "Well, son, you need to be trained up good and proper. These skills could save your life if you were to become a tribute!" father retorted. "I've never seen anyone killed with a net!" I said angrily, waving the net in his face. "I never said these skills were for murder! Although the fishing tridents have proved to be quite useful in the past. No, you use the nets to either catch fish or create snares to catch animals or humans. Well, if you're not interested then let's go home!" father grabbed the net from me, hauled it over his shoulder and waded through the water towards the beach. I slowly followed him. I stopped at the edge of the water where I turned to face out towards the centre of the lake. The scolding sand burned my feet but the water gently cooled them. My eyes travelled across the silvery surface of the lake to fix on a small fishing boat far from the shore. A young woman was resting while a small girl struggled to reel in the fishing net. Suddenly, her body gave in and the weight pulled her into the water. The splash woke up the young woman who began to yell. "Help! Someone, please! She can't swim!" Without even thinking, I dived into the water and swam quickly towards the girl who was flailing hopelessly in the water, trying to stay afloat.
Annie's POV
I was so scared. I couldn't swim and I began to pant rapidly. I began to sink down into the darkness. My muscles were shaking uncontrollable, I couldn't breathe…
An arm reached through the water and grabbed my hand. I was pulled out of the water and dragged to the seashore. The boy who rescued me let me lie in his arms and catch my breath. I sat up and turned to face the boy. "You saved me!" I cried. I flung my arms around the boy and gave him a huge hug. "I'm Finnick Odair," said the boy. I sat back to study his face. His deep blue eyes, a lot like mine, were gorgeous. His dark brown hair was dripping with water. His face was perfect.
Finnick's POV
"My name is Annie Cresta" she answered. "Annie…" I said, pushing her soft hair behind her ear. It was dark brown and wavy but soaking wet. Her pale face was thin and her eyes were as blue as the sky. She was the most beautiful girl I have ever seen. "Come on," I said, helping her to her feet. "Lets get you home." I walked her from the beach, along the pathway and onto the main street. Annie began to shiver quite violently so we started to jog. We got to her little cottage and wrapped a blue towel around her. I then carried her and placed her in front of the fire. She let me play with her hair for awhile until she turned around and kissed me on my cheek.
Annie's POV
His cheek was soft and warm. Finnick was surprised I had kissed him but pleased. "Thank you, again, for saving my life." And ,embarrassed, I ran upstairs to my bedroom and smiled.
