Gaara looked down at his shaking hands while hot tears ran down the side of his face—what had he done? It was an accident, but no one would believe him. This boy was dead now, and it was all his fault.
Gaara had finally made a real friend, someone who wanted to play with him every day. He had met the boy in a peculiar way. It was right after he had attacked Yashamaru in public by accident. The boy had walked up to Gaara and personally asked him to be his friend—Gaara couldn't breathe.
"M-my friend?" Gaara whispered harshly, the words would hardly come out.
"Yes…" The boy said back, smiling from ear to ear.
"You aren't afraid of me?" Gaara asked quietly, holding his bear closer to his chest.
"No, not really." The boy said, tilting his head before reaching out to grab Gaara's hand. Gaara quickly recoiled from the touch.
"Alright…" He said quietly as the boy starred at him in wonder.
"Well, let's go play!" The child shouted as he ran off in the direction of the village's park. Gaara chased after him quickly as he let a small laugh loose. He figured this might actually turn out to be more fun than he thought.
They swung on the swings together, and even went down the slide. Gaara was really enjoying himself until the darkness had set in.
"It's getting late, we'd better head home!" The other boy had said while he reached out again for Gaara's hand. Without warning, sand engulfed the small boy's body.
A sudden scream was heard before a small amount of red liquid started to drip from the sand floating in mid-air. Gaara wasn't sure if it was his voice or the voice of the boy that screamed, all he knew was that the world was spinning around him as the sand dropped to the ground along with the mangled body of the boy.
"W-what… have I done?" Gaara whispered as he moved back a few steps. He hadn't meant to attack him, he hadn't thought of attacking him. Gaara's ears started ringing loudly behind the quiet sobs he was letting out.
He had accidently attacked the boy when he reached for him… Shikkaku had attacked him. Gaara turned and started to run, run as far as he could from the scene.
It was an accident, a mistake! But who would listen… who would understand? He would be called a monster again, and Yashamaru would try to stick up for him.
Maybe it was true… Gaara was really a monster and couldn't have 'friends'. Maybe what everyone said was right… Gaara was alone.
