They always flew away from him. There was a time when they would stay by his side and twitter, jumping over his toes and chirping peacefully. They would sit on his shoulders and peck affectionately at his earlobes. He would sit for hours and listen to their songs, and he would be content.

But now, like any other human, they flew away from him. If he stepped too close, they were quick to spread their wings and fly away from him as fast as they could. It made him incredibly sad. He was abandoned by the creatures that were supposed to love him.

He sat down on a park bench and watched the birds fly from tree branch to tree branch. There was once a time when they would fly to where he was sitting and sing to him. Now their songs were silent, save for the beating tempo of fluttering wings.

He would never fly again.

His wings were clipped and he was caged. He was a caged bird, but he was there by his own choice. But that didn't mean he didn't feel any less trapped.

He was like the birds.

Even though he could not fly in the sky, he ran away from those who tried to get close to him. Was he afraid? Was this isolation self imposed?

He could not fly in the sky, but he could fly away from others.
