Summary: Tohru questions a song on Kyou's iPod and it leads to a story about his past. Oneshot probably. Please review.

Warnings: A little sad if you think about it. Story here probably won't match the real story. Sorry!

It was a cloudy morning at Shigure's house. The only sign of cheerfulness could be shown from a girl. She was not stronger, smarter, or any way more important than others her age. The difference was, she has been though hardship. To be exact,a death. Yet she was always happy and optimistic, full of joy even in the darkest of times. Somehow she lightened the gloomy room even in the slightest of ways. Though humming, singing or just smiling while she worked everything seemed better. She was Tohru Honda.

Tohru knelt beside her cat-like friend, Kyou Sohma. He was listening to his iPod. She looked at his song choice. For Fruits Basket? 'i wonder why he would choose that?'

"Kyou?"

Tohru snapped next to his ear. She didn't really want to annoy him, she just wanted to know, but those headphones are stopping her curiosity.

"Kyou." she said slightly louder.

"KYOU!" she said sternly.

Kyou twitched, glared at her, and gave his attention to his iPod.

"I'm so sorry. I was just curious about that song so I just yelled like that I'm so sorry." Tohru said hurrying to say it in one breath.

"Relax. If you want to know so bad I'll tell you."

Flashback !!

Well, the first thing to tell you is, I have a sister. She isn't in the Zodiac but she was still special, though I didn't show it to her when we were younger. Actually I hated her...back then.

"You killed her!!"

"No I didn't. STOP!! NO!!" Kyou yelled.

"Kyou? Kyou are you alright?" said a voice, barely louder than a whisper.

You see my dad blamed me for my mom's death and for awhile I thought he was right. But at the end of everything my sister was there, speaking reassuring words. But I turned her away.

"Go away! GO AWAY!"

"But...Kyou..."

"I SAID GO!!"

In my parents eyes she was perfect. Beautiful, talented, and curse-free. But to me she was just plain annoying. Kind, loved, and optimistic.

"Kyou isn't it a beautiful day!"

"It's raining dim-wit."

"But after every rain storm is a rainbow. And I always look for them."

"You know rainbows aren't real. They are just illusions."

One day I just couldn't stand it. She was found in a talent search. Everyone was so happy for her except me.

"Isn't it wonderful Kyou. Your sister will be famous."

"Sure."

"Kyou if I become famous, I'll be sure to take you with me."

"You won't."

"Huh?"

I left the party and went to my room. I didn't know she followed though.

"Your sister is so wonderful, so great, so PERFECT." Kyou spat the last word.

"She just ruins my life. She is not wonderful, great, talented. She is just a pain."

"I'm sorry Nii-chan!"

In a month I heard something on the radio.

'I was so happy when you smiled your smile breaks through the clouds of grey.'

It sounded like her so I listened. And it turned out it was her. She wrote it for me. Just for me to be proud of her. And I am. I am so proud and I want her to know it, but I can't. It's too late. So I listen to it all the time. Do you want to hear it?

"For Fruits Basket."

I was so happy when you smiled
Your smile breaks through the clouds of grey
Far from the sunny days that lie in sleep

Waiting with patients for the spring
when the flowers will bloom, renewed again
Knowing there's more beyond the pain of today

Although the scars of yesterday remain
You can go on living as much as your heart believes
You can't be born again, although you can change
Let's stay together always
