Disclaimer: I LOVED THE MOVIE! but Tim Burton owns all.

Summary: She's always been afraid of the dark, too bad the dark is coming for her, and this time she doesn't think it will let her go.

The dark is a cruel thing, it's all she ever thinks about, corrupting her thoughts, it's the dark thickening in her castle at nighttime, it's always there, never gone, always there next to her, tainting her. She shouldn't be tainted, she's the White Queen (white is pure, clean, angelic, not dark, not black, not angrybruised, she's light) not the Red Queen – not her sister, who loves and embraces the dark that bleeds into their DNA.

She hates the dark – hates it with the same passion she doles out on the beautiful trees surrounding her castle (talk kindly to them Spinola, the dark is taking them). The dark is always taking what she loves, what she needs, it took her old lover – her sister's husband who loves the White Queen and she loved him but she can never have him because he's dead – taken by her sister – just another person consumed by the black, just another girl who doesn't like the light because the light makes all their flaws real.

This is why Mirana loves the light, because she loves her flaws, she loves the way her upper lip is a bit thicker than her lower lip, loves that little dimple in her brow where the sweat she never feels dips down. She loves how her eyes are large and framed by thin lashes because now her eyes are larger and now her eyes are the only thing she shares with her older sister. Her flaws make her human – she likes being human.

But the dark swathes the flaws – making her perfect, and if she's perfect she doesn't mind killing because a good ruler knows when to kill someone.

She hates the dark; it's always there with her, warning her, taking her, telling her horrid, horrid things that make so much sense to her. So she hides herself in white, in the pure and good and free but the dark is there, hiding, waiting for her. It calls to her.

(Alice wakes up, covered in sweat, to her best friend screaming in the middle of the night about how the dark is coming, it's here, it won't let her go, and her champion is not there for her)

But Alice is always with her.

And as long as her Alice is here the dark cannot get her.

The nightbug (nightlight, darling, nightlight) Alice gives her for Frabjous Day helps too.

yes, I am an avid HatterxAlice fan, crazy is the more likely term, but that is not my very finely sharpened point. For some reason throwing in AlicexWhiteQueen seemed fitting…do not ask how for I have no answer to soothe the question.

R&R is always welcome, always.
