Church's Nightmare

A/N: 'thinking'

[A.I. speaking]

Church was standing in Blood Gulch, on top of the Blue Caves. His helmet wasn't on, so his blue-black hair was blowing in the gentle breeze.

He felt like something was...off. Not right. Out of place. It was as if he was forgetting something. But what?

And, what you forget always, always come back to haunt you. No pun intended.

Sighing in frustration, the Blue picked up his helmet, tucked it under his arm, and walked away into the Blue Caves.

He felt like he was being watched.

Every so often, he would hear footsteps behind him. But, whenever he looked around, they stopped. It was pissing him off. And doing a good job of scaring him a little. Okay, make that a lot.

Church turned around to resume walking, only to discover that it was a Dead End. "The fuck? A Dead End? Okay, that was not there a second ago!"

Something chuckled behind him. It (they?) whispered, ['Dead End,' indeed, Alpha.]

Church whipped around, and nearly shit his pants. Dropping his helmet, he started to back away. "N-no way! You're supposed to be dead! How the hell are you still alive?"

The figure was none other than The Meta.

Chuckling, he took a few steps towards the terrified Blue. [You cannot kill us that easily, Alpha. We did not come this far by being weak. And, like you, an EMP blast will only hamper us for a short period of time.]

He took a few more steps forward. By now, Church had backed into the wall, and was looking for an exit. Unfortunately for him, the only exit was currently behind The Meta.

'Fuck it.' Church decided to book it. Meta easily sent him flying onto his back. Before Church could get up, Meta was grabbed by the throat and lifted up into the air.

The Meta took the Epsilon Unit off of his back and raised it into a stabbing position.

[We Are The Meta, Alpha; and now, you will be, too.]

The Meta struck.

Church shot up, gasping for air. It was midnight in Valhalla, and he was in his bed.

Panting, the he whispered, "A dream...it was just a dream."

That's when he heard the growl.
