It was winter. Big, fat flakes of snow were falling peacefully, silently. They fell like miniature angels, sent to Earth to blanket the ground and conceal the darkness. The virgin snow outside the Castle walls was still fresh, no footprints having found their way across it yet.
Roxas pondered these thoughts, staring out at the expanse of pure white that stretched out as far as the eye could see. The young boy was leaning against a window ledge, having brushed aside the curtains slightly, and was looking out the giant window. His clear blue eyes stared for long periods of time without blinking; they carried no emotion at all. It was an almost pitiful image. Roxas stood silently, wishing for things that would never be.
"Hey, Roxy." Came a voice from somewhere down the hallway. Calling him that pestilential nickname. Roxas turned his head slightly, looking down into the dark hallway. Why was it always so dark here, even at the peak of day? It was… horrible. Axel emerged from the shadows, emerald eyes reflecting the glow of the window. His red hair stood out like a beacon among the mass of grey, black, and white that Roxas had been staring at for the last hour.
"Oh." He murmured.
"It's you." He turned back to the window.
"What'cha
looking at?" came Axel's voice again, as he took a few steps
closer to Roxas.
"Just the snow." Said Roxas detachedly.
"It's pretty, isn't it?" He then blushed slightly, aware of
how well… weird he sounded.
"Yeah. It's really pretty…"
Axel mumbled, drawing level with Roxas at the window and also
brushing aside one of the black curtains to look outside at the snow.
There were a few moments of silence between them. It was a
beautiful silence, not awkward. The sight of the snowflakes falling
was calming, and it gave them… hope.
Roxas reached a hand out
to touch the window. The smooth glass was very cold to the touch,
sending a shiver down his arm, and then chilling his body. Roxas gave
a small shiver. This movement caught the Flurry of Dancing Flames'
eye, as he looked down at the blonde haired boy, eyes
sparkling.
Another few seconds had passed, and Roxas felt an arm
snake around his waist.
"Wha? Axel?" he muttered in surprise. The red haired man was staring down at him with a slight smirk on his face. Roxas didn't resist as Axel drew him close, so they were both looking out the window together. The fire elemental felt so warm as he hugged Roxas close.
Then Axel turned them both to face each other, their arms around each one another. Axel was still smirking softly, and Roxas looked bewildered. He stared wide-eyed at Axel's handsome face, hands gripping the folds of the other's cloak.
"You're so beaufitul," Axel murmured, brushing aside a strand of blonde hair from the boy's face. "You're much better than the snow. But just as soft and gentle, did you know that?"
Roxas blushed at Axel's words and touch. "Uhm…" he said kind of nervously, not knowing what to reply. He contented himself by nuzzling his head to Axel's chest. He was so warm. And outside it was so cold…
And they stood there for a while. Glancing outside at the snow for a while. It had stopped falling.
