Why doesn't he get it?
Why, why would you do this? He splutters, pale freckled arms that will never hold Kaoru close again waving violently in the air. Are you, what, completely delusional?
If you love someone, you let them go- Kaoru forces this past inert, frozen lips and wonders if he makes sense at all. They have never said love to each other before- it had been taken for granted (why shouldn't it have been?), but now their world has fallen inside out and he just isn't sure. He doesn't know what would hurt the most- Hikaru understanding, or Hikaru not understanding.
I love you and you love her and I let you go.
Hikaru stares at him- does he get it, the stupid oaf? - and suddenly Kaoru finds himself cased in warmth, a shell of cocoon, an extension of himself as Hikaru's arms encircle him and a mouth breathes into his ears and tears meet his own and his heartbeat is wearing a tattoo into his breastbone, it's beating hard so hard against his twin's.
You idiot. You didn't just let me go, you pushed me away! A hot whisper breathes salvation and destruction simultaneously into his ears.
