Disclamer: I don't own the rights to twilight
He lied.
He saw her eyes looking up at him, so full of fear and guilt and perhaps he imagined it, but a little bit of jealousy. She looked as if she was about to cry; as if she committed a crime. He never did get it, how she always blamed herself for anything gone wrong. He had to admit, sometimes it got annoying. But how could she think it was her fault now?
It wasn't her fault, and she had to know that, he had to tell her. It was his dad's fault; it was his fault, his genetics and stupid nature. It was Sam's fault for bringing him into this whole mess. It was the leech's fault for taking her away, for her choosing him. It was his friends' fault, his brothers' faults for not preventing this from happening. It was the whole worlds' fault, the universes', anyone's but hers, no matter how irrational that sounded.
But he just didn't know how to tell her that, he didn't know how to ease the pain that would be in those eyes if he told her that. She would place the blame on herself of course. He just couldn't see her hurt because of a stupid thing like this. It was never her fault that he had imprinted on her, that he loved her.
So he lied when Bella asked him if he had ever imprinted; if he thought he would ever imprint.
"No," Jacob said briskly.
