I listened quietly as in the forest I searched for my mate Alice. Where did she wander off to now? I got my answer as I felt something jump on my back.
"Hey." Alice purred. I just smiled at her. She hopped off.
"Do you know what today's date is Alice asked?"
Honestly, I had no clue. I could feel amusement spark off her.
"Silly. It's December 31, 1948. New Year's Eve."
I blinked. "And how do you know this?"
She laughed. "I was in town, I saw it on a calendar."
She was in town! I should've know that.
"Do you know what time it is?"
Again, I had no clue, all I know it was late at night.
She laughed once more. "When I left it was five till."
Five minutes till midnight. I was caught off guard as Alice pulled me tords the town.
"Alice! You know I can't go into town!" I told her. I've been living on animal blood for almost a year, but I still couldn't be around humans.
She laughed. "I know." We stopped at the edge of the forest. I could see a clock tower. I could hear humans counting down.
"5...4...3...2...1!"
Heard the cheers as they welcomed the new year. I felt a tap on my shoulder. I looked at Alice, she kissed me in a surprise attack. When she broke away, she smiled.
"Happy new year, Major Whitlock."
