She had done it.
He had ordered her to set the timer for three minutes, and, like a good little soldier, she had. Even though she objected, even though she hated what she had to do.
But it broke his heart to see the expression on her face. The look of horror at her own betrayal. The look that said, "I've done it again. Why does every man close to me wind up dead?"
Deep down, he knew it was for the best. That letting Fifth out would have risked the independence of the entire universe.
But what price freedom?
