This is what happens when your teacher shows you Happy Feet as an end of unit treat and then asks you to write a biologically correct ending to the movie. I may have gone a little overboard, the rest of the class wrote about a quarter of a page. But I had strong feelings on how the movie should have ended. Thus this was born during a lazy first period class. Also I did this all on an Ipad so I apologize for any formatting and or spelling errors.

Poor Mumble

Mumble the penguin was a special penguin. Having grown up in a colony of musical inclined fowl that was really saying something. Mumble had a special trait caused by a mutation in his DNA. His father thought that this trait was due to his lack of parenting skills, specifically his inability to hold on to the egg. But considering his brethren could spontaneously belt out the latest pop hits the idea wasn't that far fetched.

As he grew his differences became more apparent. While his peers grew glossy black feathers he maintained his juvenile coat, a downy grey colour. This was a particularly harmful trait as it made him a prime target for predators. His parents however still held onto the hope that he would produce offspring despite natural selection. There had to be a deaf, blind female penguin somewhere.

As hard as he tried to find his heart song he still sounded like a dying cat. He showed off his happy feet but to no avail. As hard as he tried to make his mutation beneficial or advantageous it still had a negative impact on his attraction

Eventually it became clear that Mumble was a lost cause. He couldn't keep still; his incessant tapping drove away the prey and served only to attract predators. His reproductive abilities didn't mater if he couldn't attract a mate and no matter how much he fawned over Gloria she just wouldn't go for a male that was incapable of preforming the mating ritual. Her most important goal in life was to reproduce and with the fittest mate she could find.

Mumble was driven off by the other penguins, deemed to different to live with them. His fitness level was negatively impacted and he died alone in the cold arctic without having passed on his DNA. The happy feet gene died with him.

Is there something wrong with me if I was the only one in the class to kill him?
