"Oh my Lord, Barbara we're home!" Ian exclaimed. He ran at Barbara with his arms wide open and sort of scooped her up into his arms. Barbara wrapped her armed around Ian and now embracing the couple simply smiled and softly let go of one another
"I know, I'm so glad to back but we've been gone for two years. What are we to tell everyone?" Barbara had the look of concern on her face that Ian had come to know so well, he could tell when she was genuinely scared and well that made him scared.
"You're right, we can't exactly tell them the truth they'll call us crazy and send us to the madhouse" Ian didn't really know what to suggest. It was hard finding a reason why two people would randomly go missing and so abruptly. He thought about all the people and things he'd missed on earth. He especially missed his car "Why, I don't suppose my car is still were I left it" Ian started laugh because really, that's all he really could do, was just laugh.
Barbara glared at Ian and didn't appreciate him laughing "Ian, this is serious people are going to talk. What about our families?" Barbara pictured her mother crying, alone this thought made her start to well up. She'd really missed her Mother. She had really missed earth! Ian now more worried about Barbara than his car or even his own Mother wrapped his arm around Barbara's shoulder. "It's OK Barbara, I'm sure everyone will just be glad your home and you always have me" Ian wiped the tears from Barbara's cheek and the moment his warm hand touched her pale cold cheeks everything was quiet and the only thing Ian cold hear was his heart pounding inside his chest as if it was going to jump out and explode. The moment passed and both Barbara and Ian just stood there in silence.
Then an idea came to form inside Ian's brain his face lit up and a huge smile started to form on his face. Barbara, after traveling in the TARDIS with Ian for two years and working at Coal Hill with him for three years now had come to now Ian's facial expression very well and so she knew instantly that Ian had a plan. This gave her a warm feeling inside that she liked to think was hope. Ian always came up with a plan right when you thought it was time to give up. Barbara now looking at Ian also smiled. "We could say we were kidnaped" Ian almost shouted. The idea had been firmly set into his head and in that moment his brain thought of a million situations and things to say to his family. Barbara looked slight disappointed as though she could see a million reasons why this idea wasn't going to work "but Ian, What if our families have called the police. What if police ask for evidence! What if they ask where Susan is?!" These are all things Ian hadn't really thought about but he knew what to suggest "As long as our stories match what does it matter!" Barbara now very anxious at the idea of not only lying to her mother but also the police became very agitated. Ian could see the idea of lying to so many people was very unnerving for Barbara so he explained some more "Look Barbara if we run through the details and make sure our stories match up it will work. What else can we do?" Barbara frowned and looked intensely into the ground as though she was thinking of an alternative but she knew that either way they would have to lie. They couldn't tell the truth. Who would ever believe them? "Alright fine" Barbara reluctantly muttered.
