Prologue
Dark mud caked his feeble hands. Time was running out!
"They must never find out," the old man muttered as he groped around for his shovel to ward off his attackers. He needed one more minute.
The darkness did not help him either. Wherever he touched, there was mud and a slight metallic smell. A few moments ago he had discovered what he had dedicated his life to, only to have it snatched from his grasp in his last years.
A boot landed on his stomach but he was numb to it all.
"Still think you can defeat us," a pale but well-built man gloated.
The elderly man coughed then spat blood mixed with mucus as his aggressor, which landed on his black boot.
"I will not tell you Blakk, even if you will kill me for it!" He retorted, bracing himself for further blows from the barrel-chested man's henchmen.
Doctor Blakk chuckled, "One way or another I will get the information I want. Finish him!"
He had been so foolish to go on such an expedition alone but now he realised that the fate of Slugterra was now in his hands. Garr Revel closed his eyes and prayed to whatever deity could hear him. Driven by greed, he had continued to search for the Burning World. For once in his life he had discovered something that could change history or could have changed history.
The Burning World was astounding and he was now satisfied that he was still sane since he was starting to doubt his own mental state. But something had been different or amiss. He had returned to Slugterra to look for Eli and for answers.
He just couldn't quite put his finger on it. Maybe it was the absence of any animals or creatures or it was the deathly yellow fog that enveloped everything...
Another blow to the head. The was a blip in the darkness further to his top left.
At least I was able to do what had to be done.
No time to think. Consciousness was fading fast and the last thing he heard was Blakk's maniacal laugh as his blood gushed out of his chest.
