It was a summer noon.
Steven noticed that Connie looked sad and scared, totally different from the happy girl always happy when they meet at his beach house. He wasn't the smartest guy in Beach City but he already knew that something was bothering his friend.
"Conn" he said.
"Hmm, yes.." Connie replied, her eyes still with a sad frown.
"What's happening?"
"I guess the sooner I tell you the better" said as her sit on Steven's couch. "My dad is being sent to work on the West coast, so my family is moving soon." She started crying, as Steven inherited her sad look.
"Wait, so how will we see each other?" Steven
"I guess I could come to spend the summers with you, but it is so far away, I don't even think my parents would allow for such a long trip It won't be as easy as just my dad or yours bringing me by car."
Steven cried. The thought of them being so far apart hurt him. How would he spend all those months without seeing his Connie. How would they have jam sessions, or train together, or stuff their faces with marshmallow as they watch under the knife? He wanted to spend more time with her he thought about all the times they wouldn't dance, all the times they wouldn't have water fights by the beach, all the times they wouldn't go to the theater riding on Lion's back. ...
"Oh wait!" Steven shouted in epiphany, slowing down Connie's tears a bit , "LION!"
"Oh right!" Connie said. "That could work, could he handle the trip? West coast is far after all."
"Well, his longest trip was back when he took me and the crystal gems plus Peridot to a base on the moon, but i guess that's closer than the west coast, and that already made him really tired."
Connie stopped crying and started giggling. "No, silly buns" she said laughing "The moon is much further from us than the west coast, why would you say the opposite?"
"Well I never saw the west coast, but I could clearly see the Moon shining bright in yesterday's sky."
Connie laughed at her cute friend's naivety, and gave him a small peck in the cheek making him blush "The West coast is much closer to us than the moon. If Lion can take that trip to that base he would be totally be able to pick me up in my future home so we can hangout."
"So Lion solved this problem I guess?"
"Yep" said Connie as she rested her head on Steven's shoulder.
"I guess distance is no problemo when you have a magic pink lion as a friendo" Steven smirked.
"hehehe, totally. I'm so glad we will still be able to properly spend time together."
"So do I. Imagine if we ended up growing apart because of that, never talking to each other ever again?"
"Ew" said Connie as she laughed "that would be soooo sappy and clichĂȘ"
Weeks passed and Connie finally had to move away from Beach City, not before she gave Steven her new address so he could pick her up for hangouts and training. The care and attachment the two had to each other would not change, not even at a different coast. the only thing that truly changed was the amount of Lion Lickers Steven had to buy monthly.
