So I got this idea and had to see if I could make it work. This is what I came up with, I hope it doesn't induce too many involuntary tears, although it certainly did whilst writing it. :,(

A mist settle around them. They sat side by side their eyes fixated on the stone before them. Neither understanding why. Max placed his arm around Zoe. An atmosphere of sorrow wore heavily upon the earth.

A tear slid silently down her cheek, he wiped it away with a delicate finger. Her fragmented heart threatened to pierce her cheat. The pain was killing her from the inside out and no one could stop it. She had the memories now and they were just if not harder to deal with.

People have said that every atom within our bodies was once part of a star. So maybe, just maybe he's not moving on but instead returning home.

She brought her knees up to her chest and looked up at the stars scattered across the night sky. The hardest part was knowing she now had to live without him. The grief was eating away at her body, all her strength had been lost through tears. Her heart plummeted into the depths of despair. What she'd give to say one last goodbye, to kiss him goodnight and say she'd love him just one more time.

Why take the best before the worst, Zoe couldn't understand why him of all the people. He had the kindest soul, the brightest smile and said the cheekiest things but she wouldn't have had him any other way and now he had entered into the world beyond human control.

One thing in life she'd never forgotten was that matter can never be created or destroyed only transformed from one form to another. He would always be with her, dancing in the wind; whistling through the trees.

A half formed ghost sat beside Zoe, his arm still protectively around her. He couldn't stand not being about to touch her, to kiss her, to comfort her. She couldn't see him, but she knew in her broken heart he wouldn't be far away.

She got to her feet as the sun rose up over the horizon. He was still at her side not ever wanting the end to come. She was still in his arms. Her eyes came back into focus and she read aloud what was written in stone.

"Max Walker

Died 25th July 2015

A Loving Son, Brother and Husband.

He will be in our hearts forever and always."

He was never coming back her crazy, impulsive, younger husband was now committed to the ground. Earth to earth, ashes to ashes, dust to dust.
