It was one of those regular sort of days that you get hundreds and hundreds of, those days that seem to drag endlessly on and yet pass without anything worth remembering.

What could be remembered of it was that it had been hot, and that it had started drizzling in the late afternoon, and that the humidity had given both Kagami and Kuroko no choice but to undo the first few buttons on their uniforms and take turns sitting in front of the electric fan. Kuroko's house could get quite stifling at times, and they both regretted having chosen his place instead of Kagami's. Although they did have some cold watermelon that Kuroko had dug out from the depths of the fridge to eat, and he rather thought that having Kagami impose on his hospitality might help him focus on their homework more.

But in this respect, he was entirely at an end. Kagami was nodding off, his head falling forward on his chest every minute or so as he completely neglected the pitiful, slightly wrinkled questionnaire he had trapped under his elbow, and Kuroko had since taken to placing a watermelon seed on top of his head every time he closed his eyes. So far he had managed to get away with eight.

Kagami eventually jerked himself awake when, on the very doorstep of sleep, his body went limp, causing him to fall over and make all seventeen watermelon seeds cascade out of his hair and scatter all over the floor. He had gotten angry at Kuroko for this prank, of course, and it was with great reluctance (and much grumbling) that he cleaned up the mess and went back to trying to figure out math. Needless to say, he couldn't concentrate for very long and went only half an hour before giving up and spending the rest of their study session playing with his pencil and absently doodling on the corner of his paper.

Most of the time Kagami would stare at Kuroko with an odd expression, his gaze lingering a little too long on the bit of pale, exposed skin peering out of Kuroko's partially unbuttoned shirt, and he would brush Kuroko's bangs out of his eyes, or brush his fingers against his cheek, or comment on how he had never realized how small his hands were.

He once leaned in and asked if he could steal a kiss, to which Kuroko idly nodded in response. When Kagami had pulled away, Kuroko didn't move or say anything, and he seemed to be quite intent on finishing the last four numbers on his questionnaire.

But Kagami noticed that his eyes had glazed over and remained fixed on one spot on his paper for a long while after that.

As it turned out, neither of them hardly got any work done at all.
