Ageless Tail

Don't make eye contact

Don't stiffen and increase the pace

Don't show weakness

Don't let the anger show on your face.

They follow my movements as I stalk by

They stop to whisper and trade gossip and lies

They just know everything I try to hide

They are waiting for the chance to skin me alive.

I know that I am different,

That I don't belong

I know that everyone can see

That appendage that follows me along.

Should I stop in place

and let them stare

If I should encourage their ire

and watch as nobody would care

Dragging myself with a smile

Slowly inching to my grave;

Even if they tossed me in a hellish fire

I would nod, smile and wave.

My crime became guilt with gave birth

to pity which mutated into compassion.

Dragging my companions to the ends of the earth,

Duty emerged as we climbed over the dead and ashen.

Compelled beyond reason and faith

Inspired beyond doubt

Following behind that shadowy wraith,

And learning the truth I could have done without.

But what is a thief with nothing to steal?

Or an actor who had lost their stage,

All the falsities of your life lost to the wheel

And a hero is no more as the victims age.

There is no more awe as I walk;

An ageless face beacons pauses,

Drawn to look, stare and gawk,

From those who are aging, dying, cursing the causes.

The creature that lurks behind their eyes,

Crawls in the soiled and drips pleasantries with lies.

As time robs me of my feats;

All the past's blessings dissolve.

The history, the tale, the myth, twisted more each person i meet;

Gone with all the conflicts I helped resolve.

Those who understood were whisked to their grave

But I remain to society their fool, their slave.

Nothing is left of what I had

The beautiful antagonist that I could call brother;

Consumed with guilt, twisted mad

Mercifully murdered, He like a child killed by his mother.

Eyes glassed over and he died taking with him

The only person who shared my fate,

Like being tossed into the ocean and not knowing to swim;

Memories of them all sink and churn into hate.

All I can do is repeat my sin;

Just following the social contract.

I hope that greater events are starting to begin;

Breathe deeply, don't make eye contact.
