A FLASH OF GREEN

Takes place a little after "Mondo's Last Stand". Belongs to Haim Saban, Fox Kids, and Disney. The weapons mentioned are the ones used in "Gung Ho".

The sparring session was quick and fierce. Punch after punch and kick after kick. Jason could hardly keep the grin off of his face as he moved along the mat, expertly blocking Tommy's moves. Man, he had missed this! Back in Switzerland, there hadn't really been anyone to give him a good challenge, though Zack and Trini had come close. However, though their workout was intense, it was also playful. Tommy made a move as if to put his friend in a headlock, but it was quickly sidestepped. Jason let out a side kick which Tommy expertly stopped.

"Wanna move on to weapons?" Tommy suggested.

"Sure," Jason answered, and without missing a beat, the two boys grabbed two long sticks known as Shinais. Tommy thrust-ed and Jason parried, stopping the incoming assault. Soon, the two boys were in the midst of an even more intense routine, unaware that they had drawn their friends who were fellow Rangers over to watch.

"Wow. I still can't believe how evenly matched they are," Tanya commented.

"Oh, I know. I didn't think anyone could best Tommy," Katherine agreed.

"This is nothing. You should see them when they really get going," Billy stated. Adam and Rocky shared a look. They weren't sure they wanted to see that. Suddenly, Tommy knocked Jason's weapon out of his hands and then swept him off of his feet with a kick. Jason reached for the weapon, but Tommy put a foot on his wrist.

"Oh, no you don't," he said. Almost as soon as the words were out of his mouth, Tommy froze. A felled Jason reached for his Power Morpher, but the Green Ranger jammed a foot onto his wrist.

"Oh, no you don't," he sneered.

"Tommy!" he heard Jason call. Tommy immediately stepped back and Jason quickly stood up.

"Jase, I-" Tommy's voice fell away. The others except for Billy started forward, but Jason stopped them by putting a hand up, palm forward.

"It's okay, Bro. I'm okay," the Gold Ranger assured his leader.

"I-I-"

"Inhale." Tommy did so. "Exhale." Again, he followed his friend's instructions. They did this a few times until the Red Ranger was completely calm.

"You all right now?"

"Yeah. But, uh-I could use a smoothie."

"That's cool. I'll buy." With that, the two put their things away and headed for the counter.

"What was that all about?" Tanya asked in surprise. She had never seen Tommy freeze like that before. But by the way Billy and Jason had acted; it was obvious that they had.

"Yeah, and how did you know that Jason could handle it?" Rocky wondered.

"Tommy had a flashback to when Rita had him under her spell," Billy explained. "Jason's one of the only two people who could ever bring him out of it and calm him down," he continued.

"Who was the other person?" Tanya asked.

"Kimberly," Billy responded.

"That makes sense. They were pretty close," Rocky mused.

"Yeah," Adam agreed.

"Will Tommy be okay?" Katherine queried.

"Yeah. Jason's got him," Billy assured. Then, they turned to stare at the two who were talking in hushed tones.
