So, some people hate me/think I'm Satan. Just read, I promise you will forgive me (unless you are a huge grudge-holder).

By the way, this is the sequel to A New City, A New Love.

Chapter One

January 1 2015

"Hey, Freddie? The towel is all wet … could you maybe not just dump it on the floor after you're done?"

"Sure," she calls back. I sigh a get a new towel out of the linen closet. Santana and I had the same argument, I remember. And then I told her I was pregnant.

I shake my head, clearing the haze out of my head. Danny, our other roommate, is making pancakes. It was so confusing to have two "Dani's" that I told everyone to call me Dan. I really don't know why Danny didn't just tell them to call him Dan.

Freddie smiles at me as I walk out into the kitchen. She sort of put the moves on me when I first got here, but I told her I didn't really want a relationship. I guess I'm still holding onto the "if I ever come back to New York and we're both still single" deal.

My phone beeps. It's another picture of Kyra. She really does look like me. It's funny how Kurt and Blaine keep in touch with me. Sometimes they're in the pictures, but never Santana. They don't talk about her and I don't ask.

"What?"

"I'm going to live with you, Santana." Brittany sits down on the couch. Dani's couch.

"But, Britt, you're in MIT!"

She shakes her head. "No, I dropped out. I'm too stupid."

"But you're not stupid! Britt, that was your big break!"

She shrugs and hugs me. "You know that I've only ever loved you, Santana." I blink and try to keep a straight face.

"Britt, I have to pee."

"Okay."

I quickly dial Rachel and explain the situation. "Just tell her you're house-sitting for your girlfriend."

"What? No! That's so mean!"

"Then take her back," Rachel says, exasperated.

"Maybe I'll just let her stay here a few days."

"Whatever."

"Why this spur-of-the-moment trip? It'll cost a lot, you know."

"I'm going to New York, Freddie. I just have to make sure – that my apartment is okay. My name's still on the lease."

Freddie rolls her eyes. "Your ex is living there."

"Who, Santana? She probably has a girlfriend."

"So that's why you fended off my advances?"

I shut my suitcase and face Freddie. "I just have to see her, okay?"

I'm letting Britt crash here for a week. I told her that I loved her, but I had someone else that I loved and I didn't want to hurt their feelings. She understood.

Just as Britt is getting out of the shower, there's a knock on the door. "Come in," I say.

It's Dani.

Dani!

"Dani."

She glances at Brittany, and her face crumples. She runs out. I dash after her. "Wait – Dani! Please!"

She turns around, wiping tears from her eyes. "No, it's okay – I don't have any reason to be upset, you know?"

I grab her hand. "That was my friend Brittany. She dropped out of college and I'm letting her stay here for a few days." I pray like hell that I haven't mentioned that she's my ex.

"Your ex, Brittany?"

I cringe. "I told her that I loved someone else. You can ask her!"

There's desperation in my voice now. She has to believe me.

"I – yeah. I know what you mean." Thank the lord. I pull her closer to me and kiss her gently.

"Are we done being broken up?" She nods.

"Long distance works. I mean, we didn't see anyone else for five months when we were broken up."

I clap my hands and kiss her again.
