Quirks

--

Legolas silently got to his feet.

It was not often that he had to use the privy in the middle of the night, at least not during the last 2.500 years, but Aragorn, the twins and himself had had quite a bit of wine that evening.

On bare feet and only wearing his night-shirt, he tapped to the bathroom, not heeding the chilly air which told him that autumn had arrived.

--

When he went back to bed, he snuggled deeply under the blankets nevertheless, just for the sake of comfort. He sighed contentedly; Imladris was a very pleasant place to live at, and he had to admit that he would not mind visiting more often.

Very early in the morning, he woke again. Golden sunlight filtered in through the light curtains and played on whichever surfaces it fell.

Legolas had watched it for a while, feeling quite happy as it was, when he heard something out in the hall.

The elf smiled, for he had recognized Aragorn“s footfall. Quickly, he pretended to be asleep.

--

A few seconds later, the door to his room slowly opened, and the Ranger peered around it. Very quietly, he entered and approached the bed. He hesitated for a mere second: "Legolas?"

The elf tried to maintain his assumed posture but could not. He chuckled: "I tricked you!"

"You did not", Aragorn replied indignantly. "You look different when you sleep."

"Yeah, right." Legolas saw that Aragorn was shivering slightly in the cold air and moved over a bit, holding up his blankets invitingly. Grateful to get warm, Aragorn slipped into the bed. Lying back, Legolas looked at him curiously: "Why are you up so early?"

"I woke up and could not get back to sleep. And then I thought if you were up already as well we might ride to the springs before breakfast."

The springs were one of Aragorn“s favourite places; they fed a small stream which flowed into the Bruinen, and were surrounded by trees and boulders. A very peaceful spot, and in the early hours, one could often see deer or foxes coming to drink.

Legolas nodded: "Aye, we could. Or we might just stay here in bed. It is so very cosy."

His friend looked at him in bewilderment: "This is the last answer I would have expected from you."

The elf grinned and stretched delicately, just like a cat: "Sometimes I surprise even myself."

Aragorn could not but grin.
