Chapter 1
It had been a typical day at work. The incessant yelling of Normal, Sketchy's bonehead comments, and Herbal's incoherent babbling. Max had had enough and was looking forward to some quiet time with Logan to calm her down. She clocked out the second the clock hit five and headed straight for Logan's.
Logan had just finished cooking when he heard Max walk through the door.
"Honey, I'm home," she called.
"I'm in here," he called back.
"Mmmmmmm. That smells great," she said as she entered the kitchen and hugged him.
"Max, not tonight. I've got a contact coming by and you know I have to finish that story for tomorrow."
"Huh? What story?"
"You know what I'm talking about."
"No I don't and if some little story is more important than your fiancé, then I'm gone."
With that, Max gathered her things and left the apartment.
"Max, wait. Don't leave," he tried calling to her, but it was useless, she was gone.
Out on her Ninja, Max headed for Crash. She arrived a few minutes later and located her crew. She ordered a beer and sat with them.
"Hey Max," came the drunken chorus from their table.
"Hey," she wished she was like them, without worry.
"So anyway, did you see that girl that came in today? Damn, she was fine," Original Cindy said.
"I agree," Sketchy replied.
"Your both crazy," Herbal spoke up, but Max cut him off.
"Sketchy, what are you doing tonight?"
"Nothing. Why?"
"Can we go back to your place?"
Original Cindy and Herbal's jaws were almost resting on the table.
"Ok," Sketchy said as Max grabbed him and headed for the door.
Hours later, when they were finished, Max turned to him and said, "Now I know what Lydia was talking about."
Sketchy rolled over and went to sleep a happy man.
Max left him a few hours later and headed to work.
Chapter 2
Max was greeted by Original Cindy the second she walked in the door.
"Boo, if you and Wiggy banged the gong last night, Original Cindy is gonna have to go toss up whatever she's eaten in the last year."
"Have fun and say hi to the porcelan god for me."
"You can't be serious?"
"Oh, but I am."
Original Cindy was off and running.
Herbal was next to confront Max.
She told him what had happened and he too ran for the bathroom.
She smiled to herself as Sketchy came in.
"Max did we do what I think we did?"
"Yup."
"YES!!"
She just walked away from Sketchy's little happy dance and began another day at work.
Hours later when she had finished, she went up to Normal and kissed him ferociously.
"What the fire truck are you doing?"
"What you've wanted to do since day one."
With that, she lead him into the back room, and they didn't come out for a few hours.
When they did, they discovered Original Cindy sitting on a bench. She took one look at them and headed for the bathroom again.
Chapter 3
Max headed for Logan's where she found him with Lydia, the woman who Sketchy had cheated on Natalie with. She turned and ran. She ran to her Ninja and rode to the Space Needle. She was climbing to the top, when she fell. She fell for what seemed like hours. She landed with a thud.
She looked around to see where she was and discovered she was on the floor next to her and Logan's bed.
It had all been a nightmare, and never had she been so glad to be awake.
