Megumi Cross kept walking deeper and deeper into the woods, tears filling her eyes. She didn't know where the end of the forest led to, nor did she care. She didn't care where she would eventually stop. She didn't care if a vampire would attack her. She no longer cared about anything, especially not herself.

Everything was better this way. No longer would she be a burden to her teachers for needing to keep skipping classes. No longer would she trouble her classmates and her one friend with her seizure episodes. No longer would she hurt her father by being sick all the time or by simply existing.

Her father, who meant the world to her, didn't deserve all the hell and heartache she had put him through. Why had he even adopted her? Maybe she hadn't started being sick until after he had adopted her, when it was too late. Perhaps he had kept her out of pity. He had made the choice to keep her; now, she was making the choice to leave and never return.

Megumi was so lost in her thoughts that she hadn't realized that there were Level E vampires only a few feet in front of her. She stopped, terrified, but didn't scream, wishing she could accept her fate with open arms.

Suddenly, a figure rushed past her. She fell on her bottom, and she looked up just in time to see all of the Level E vampires being slashed in one swipe and turned to dust. Wide-eyed, she looked at the figure who had effortlessly destroyed them.
