"Anija!"
Genji called.
"… Anija, look!" He chirped, while frantically waving around what seemed to be a green folded piece of paper. Hanzo was serenely sitting under the biggest tree in their garden while beautiful cherry blossoms invaded and spread around the air. Heturned to his younger brother as soon as he heard him call out for him.
"What is it, Genji?" He said with a soft smile, while putting away his book on the ground. He had carefully folded one of the pages corners to prevent losing track of his reading.
Genji quickly reached him, and Hanzo could finally make out what was the thing he was so excited to show him.
"Oh, Sparrow that is-" He tried to start but was cut off by Genji's enthusiasm.
"AN ORIGAMI DRAGON! YES!" He said proudly, then started chuckling. "Do-" He continued more quietly, "Do you like it …?" He hesitated.
Hanzo took the origami from his hands, while Genji was eagerly waiting for a response.
It definitely was not the best origami he had seen, the paper was torn apart here and there, and Genji had not been the best at hiding the glue he used to keep it together (So much for Origami rules!), but looking at how much his little brother was proud of it and looked for approval from him, he overlooked all the defects.
"I love it, Sparrow." He said, once again with a smile.
Genji grinned widely at him. That was all he needed to hear.
He was about to give it back to him, but stopped mid-way. "Actually," He said taking a better look at it.
Genji made a confused face followed by a "Huh?"
"Do you mind if I keep it?" Hanzo concluded.
Genji grinned even more widely, if that was even possible. "Of course, Anija!" He said happily, "I can make you more if you want!" He added while running off to do as he said without even waiting for Hanzo to reply.
"You don't need to!" Hanzo called after him, chuckling.
Genji stopped in his tracks and turned to him again, looking confused.
"This one is special. I will take good care of it. I promise." Hanzo said while lifting his book from the ground, "It will help me keep track of what I'm reading!" he added as he put the origami in the page he had folded before.
Genji's eyes sparkled with happiness. "Aaah! Thank you, thank you, thank you, big brother!" He said cheerfully and hugged him. Hanzo returned the hug.
Memories of the past faded away as tears streamed down Hanzo's face. He was holding the little green paper dragon he had been treasuring so dearly all his life. It was full of dust, he hadn't touched it since ...
He held it close to his chest while the memories from his childhood and teenage years kept haunting him.
