'He may never wake…'
'… Brain damaged…'
'… Anderson… time… say your goodbyes.'
Fragmented phrases drifted through the hazy ringing. What is this? Where am I?
'JUST LET ME TALK TO HIM!'
His mind recoiled from the scream, its clearness echoed loudly, but the voice it belonged too – so familiar. Filled with grief and anger, such terrifying anger – once full with happiness and love, yet withered with age.
The face of the person is hanging on the edge of his mind but he can't reach, he can't remember who she is.
'Blaine…'
Now, it's full of relief and reassurance and he grabs at her voice, trying to hold on, to ground himself onto something.
'My dear, listen to me, focus on my voice and all will be well.'
He fights harder to stay adrift, above the murkiness that has surrounded him for countless hours.
'It is time for you to receive your Gift; it has been locked inside you since your birth, waiting. Now listen carefully my dear, it is the only thing that can restore your life source but it is also incredibly dangerous, so I pass onto you the Book of Lore and the help of my friend, Adelais. They will guide you in your future need.
'Esealer eht cigam ni ym tnadnecsed,
Tel sih cigam dliuer sih htgnerts.'
Blaine's hand finally clenched around reality, his hazel eyes opened – he was alive.
And sitting in front of him was his Great-Gran.
She smiled.
"Hello dear."
