"Buffy," Angel whispered as he drove his Plymouth out of the empty streets of LA.

It was night; Angel had the roof of his convertible down and was enjoying the wind blow against his hard face. He knew that it was not a good idea for him and Buffy to meet but he needed to see her face to face and find out what had happened. All he knew was what Willow had told him, they had been fighting a major bad and Buffy sacrificed herself to save the world. Now she was back and all he could think about was her.

"I'm coming," said Buffy.

She was driving Giles' car extremely fast and unsafe but she didn't care. For one, this is actually one of the safest times she'd ever driven a car and two, she needed to see Angel. Buffy had been thinking over what she would say in her head. She knew that it probably wouldn't help but what else could she do.

They had planned on meeting in the desert in a place near Oxnard. Angel had said that there was a small mining town out there that was never used any more.

When Buffy had asked if it was safe, Angel said, "Buffy, I would never send you to a place that I knew was unsafe. If we find trouble out there, we'll deal."

Now, Buffy just kept thinking that this was one of the worst mistakes of her life.

Angel was having similar thoughts but when he pulled into the mining town and saw Giles' car parked off to one side, all of those thoughts disappeared. Angel parked his car and stepped out onto the sandy floor. He sniffed the air and noticed two things. He noticed Buffy's scent stronger than it had been in a long time and he noticed that there were about five hours to sunrise.

"Angel?" called Buffy.

"Yes, Buffy. How have you been?"

"Dead. You?"

"Same. How…I mean what…"

"Willow and the gang performed a spell and brought me back. At first I was feral because of the…hell dimension that I was in but I've gotten better."

"You were in hell?" asked Angel looking up at the sky.

"Yep, not one of the best places to go, but then of course, you would know that."

Angel turned away to stop himself from crying. Buffy had needed him more than she had ever needed him before and he hadn't known or helped.

"Angel? What's wrong?"

"Nothing," replied Angel turning to face her.

Buffy looked up into his face and time seemed to slow down. Angel lent forward almost unintentionally. Buffy moved up and when they were a centimetre away from each others lips, an unearthly howl echoed through the abandoned mining town. Angel and Buffy looked towards the sound.

"Looks like we might have some work to do after all," said Angel.
