Rikku:
Bodies. They were everywhere, and still coming. Operation Mi'ihen had failed. Of course. But my father, Cid, leader of the Al Bhed, was stupid enough to go along with it. Funny thing is, though, that I couldn't cry. Cousins, aunts, uncles, friends – practically everyone I knew was either dead or severely injured. But I just couldn't cry. I couldn't accept the fact that they were gone. Sooner or later, I would, and I'd break down; I knew that. I just didn't know how much later. I helped tend to the injured, praying for each one of them, and hoping that they'd get better. But what use would hope be? This is Spira, for Yevon's sake! There's rarely any hope whatsoever. Only when pilgrimages were going on; that's when people had hope. Hope that Sin would be defeated, only to come back ten years later. Silly, really, when you know it'll just come back. But they still hope. For the wrong thing. They should be hoping that people who've lost dear ones make it. Or at least hope to see tomorrow. Selfish bastards.
I had mentioned the pilgrimages, right? You're probably wondering what they are. They're when a summoner travels to Zanarkand to defeat Sin, collecting aeons from temples along the way. There's the Final Aeon, which will both kill Sin and the summoner. My cousin, Yuna, is on one. Rin came up with the idea that we should kidnap the summoners and try to convince them to stop. Another reason for the Yevonites to hate us. We haven't put it into action yet, but it'll happen soon.
I overheard my dad talking with some other Al Bhed about going out to sea, just above some Zanarkand ruins. I asked to go and they agreed, saying that my Mix Smith skills would come in handy. What's a Mix Smith, you ask? It's when someone can mix items that are just plain ordinary, into something extraordinary! Like I can take a few pieces of machina, some potions and maybe some items and make a grenade! I'm still working on flash bombs, though. They aren't as easy to make.

We've found an old temple! It's not underwater, but it's still a temple. Only problem is that the doors won't open. So, we take so explosives and stuff and pile 'em up against the door. 1, 2, 3, BOOM! Nothing. Let's try it again. BOOM! Still nothing. Pile more stuff on! BOOM! Yes! We're in! Third time's the charm, no? First thing we see is a boy fighting this fiend. He's gonna loose, I know it. So, I'm being brave and helping the kid out. A few grenades, slash, slash, slash, one more grenade and it's gone! My fellow Al Bhed gather around the kid, thinking he's the fiend. They're about to kill him, but I stop them and say that he'd be better for questioning. They agree. I walk up to the kid, my hand in a fist.
"Cunno," I say in his ear, then punch his gut, knocking him out.

I kinda don't want to go into detail of how we got the airship. It's boring really. The kid, whose name turned out to be Tidus, just kept banging on the machina that wouldn't work, and that technique got us through. After we got the airship, we went back to the ship, where Sin attacked us. We survived, but it appeared the kid hadn't; he was gone. We just shrugged and headed back home.
