The Tragedy of Consequentia
Prologue
The year is 2798. Chaos reigns in Consequentia, as war has ripped through its peaceful landscape so many years ago. Warriors march to the battle, but many don't walk out. The saddest part of this war is that we've been fighting for so long, we're not sure what cause we're fighting for anymore. On one side are the Certamen, selfless and loyal. The other, wicked side is branded the name of the Malum. While the two parties rage into the conflict, there are a small number of us who fight for a different reason. With famine and sickness abroad in the country, we are struggling to feed our starving families. Thievery seemed like the only option, and now we are outlaws in our own towns. There is news that the Malum are creating a machine that harnesses the power of the elements themselves, and that's when the tide turned in the battle: the Malum flooded the battlefield!
Chapter 1
My name is Calvin Proeliator. Life in my hometown of Vicus was privileged, until a boy in my village named Randy Malum started getting dreams of conquest. Being the inventor he was, Randy started making robotic enforcers to cement is "title" of ruler of Vicus. The enforcers, or the "Malum", got their energy from our misery. If I knew that today, I could have helped the Certamen, but that was 27 years ago. With the Malum taking over Vicus, food supplies were running low. It was then that I realized that I had a natural talent for thieving. I could steal a loaf of bread before the guards could even blink. Thievery supported us for a couple of months, but it was apparent that we had to move. Gathering my wife Sophia and our belongings, we left Vicus just in time to witness the village crumble to dust.
Chapter 2
Sophia was an adorable little girl back in the time of Vicus. Her long, golden hair cascaded over her shoulders when she ran, and her voice was like an angel's. She was in my 7th grade class of Magister Junior High, and what I saw then changed my outlook on her forever. One day, some girls were feeling jealous of Sophia, and started pushing her around. Then I saw her kick, dodge, and chop like lightning until no one else picked on her. It just turned out that Sophia went to Kanji Martial Arts Academy, and could defend herself just fine. This made me even more interested in her, and a great friendship was born. At the age of 25, we got married, and this helped our "careers", because by working together, we could provide for ourselves.
