Martha Kent was a good liar. Or maybe she was just a good chess player. It had been one of Lionel's favorite things to do when she worked for him all those years ago. He had taught her to play. She had already known the basics, which piece moved which way but he had taught her how to really play. And play she did.
Martha Kent was a master at the game. She had managed to outlive both Luthor men and survive in the senate. She had to be a master player, especially playing the roll she had chosen for herself. It wasn't an easy roll to play. She was the senator in everyones pocket, at least that's what they thought. The dirtier, more dangerous the organization the more likely it was to fascinate her. She liked it dirty….as the jokes around the Senate went.
Everyone was aware of her relationship with Lionel Luthor but most figured it turned sexual even though it never did. She let them. It was easier that way. She even fanned the flames on occasion. It was all part of the game. Everyone had their part to play; and hers was this. It all lead to this.
Martha smiled as the knock came on her door. A man walked wearing what could only be described as horned rimmed glasses. "Hello, Senator Kent." The man smiled.
"Mr. Bennett." Martha stood up and shook the man's hand.
She had heard from Oliver that this man was part of an organization that went after people with abilities. Oliver and his people were going at the group from one angle and she was from another. Oliver had been cautious about letting her get involved but she had a stake in this as much as anyone. This man and the people he worked for were a threat to her son and she would protect him at any cost.
"Thank you for this meeting." The man smiled..
Martha motioned for the man to take a seat and she did as well. If this went according to plan this would be the first step in getting more information on the group he worked for. She had no doubt that he was just a foot soldier, what she wanted were the people on the inside. He was no Lionel Luthor. No, this was just the opening gambit of what was to be a long chess game.
But then again Martha hadn't played a good game in a long time, and she was looking for a new opponent.
"Not a problem." Martha smiled back, "So where would you like to start?"
