featuring Ani Difranco's "School Night"
Disclaimer: The italicized lines belong to Ani Difranco (except for a gender change so she-he her-his) while Zoro, Sanji, and their dreams belong to Oda.
Notes: Apparently, writing Politically Correct only served to make Zoro and Sanji permanent characters in my head. So when this song came on all I could imagine was the following bit. The first part is simply set-up and the second part is half lyrics half dialogue and setting. I slapped this together in the past hour because I couldn't focus on my history paper haha
I might come back and polish it up later, but I'm quite content with it simply being out of my system.
It was raining. Ofcourse it was raining. It was so stereotypical. It was so cheesy.
It was beautiful. It was perfect.
It was unavoidable.
He sloshed through the growing rush of water at the edge of the curb. It was dark and late, but there was still a constant stream of people on the sidewalk and Sanji wasn't interested in rubbing shoulders with anyone at the moment. He wasn't certain he'd feel like rubbing shoulders with anyone for a long while.
He looked up at the tall apartment building. He had finally reached his destination.
His end. Their end.
Sanji passed the elevator doors in silence and headed to the stairwell. There was no way he'd survive the silent unmoving ride up to the top floor. He felt that if he stopped moving now, he'd lose his nerve. Instead he took comfort in his footsteps echoing off the walls in the enclosed space. He didn't want to think. Thinking gave him the chance to rationalize his way out of the situation. Gave him the chance to put off the inevitable for one more day.

Zoro stood at his open door staring at the soaking blonde in front of him.
They were silent.
Zoro continued to stare at eyes that refused to look up.
"Is this it then?" he hadn't meant for it to be a whisper. He had wanted to sound confident.
He built a skyscraper of procrastination
and then he leaned out the twenty-fifth floor window of his reply
Sanji winced, let out a shaky breath, and lifted his head to return his lovers gaze. Eyes so full of sadness and resignation. He wondered what he looked like to Zoro. Did he have the same defeat in his eyes?
and far below was the blacktop
and the tiny toy cars
"Yes."
and it all fell so fast
and it all fell so far
"Because of All Blue?"
you are a miracle but that is not all
you are also a stiff drink and I am on call
"Because of All Blue,
you are a party and I am a school night
because of Mihawk,
and you'll never know, dear
just how much I loved you
but not because of you."
you'll probably think this was
just my big excuse
but I stand committed
to a love that came before you
Zoro wished he had taken a shower before answering the door. It wasn't fair that the blonde could hide behind dripping rainwater while his own tears fell raw and unhindered down his face.
and the fact that I adore you
is but one of my truths
"I get it."
this is the price that we pay
for the privilege of living for even a day
Sanji nodded and turned around.
in a world with so many things
Zoro shut the door.
worth believing in
