Silence.
Ren stared out the window in his apartment, it was raining, and the sky was so black that if felt like that room was the only place in the world. That they were the only people in the world, and that time was simply a distant memory of a distant time.
Kyoko was in the kitchen finishing up the dishes of the meal that she had made them, he had tried to help her but had been distracted, dropped a plate and cut himself. After that, or course, Kyoko refused to let him help her, there had been lines of worry on her forehead as she wrapped his injured palm. How he wished he could smooth those lines, cup her face in both hands and just breath with her. Still but alive and together.
Eventually she finished cleaning the dishes into submission, and came to stand in front of the window. Her hair was slightly messy and she looked tired, but so beautiful.
"Beautiful." She sighed as she looked out into the dark abyss that was night, and as Ren looked at her he realized that this place was not the only place in the world, and they were not the only people in the world.
As Ren came to this realization it almost seemed like the room was stretching and Kyoko stated to be farther and farther away. She was being swallowed up by the night, except it wasn't dark where she was disappearing to, it was light, and he was stuck in the dark. Alone.
"Kyoko"
She turned toward him with a sleepy content expression on her face.
"Mr. Tsuruga? How is your hand? Does it hurt?" she started to walk towards him but stoped when she saw the expression on his face.
"I love you."
The world stopped, Kyoko seemed frozen like someone had hit the pause button on her life.
"Kyoko I've been looking for wings big enough that would let me fly again. I've spent years searching, and in the end you are my wings. Always, and I love you." Ren waited.
Silence.
"I don't understand—"
"You do understand, someone may have ripped off your wings but I can still see them, their right there Kyoko, so no more blindfolds, no more not seeing, I love you."
She continued to look at him and then she turned back to look out at the rain. Ren waited.
"Corn, I knew you would find your wings, and I'm so glad you are flying free. And your right, my wings are here, they're you." Kyoko turned around to face him.
"But you see Corn, just because you have wings doesn't mean you can fly."
"Kyoko I—"
"No! It hurts, it just hurts to much, so don't break me like he did… I can't fly with you."
Ren continued to stare at her but now he was the one set on pause, frozen, time had caught back up and wrapped itself around him, making the heaviest shackles.
Kyoko gathered her bag , jacket, and umbrella and headed for the door, as she reached for the door handle she stopped.
"Forgive me." Then she opened the door, walked out, and closed it gently with a soft thud.
Ren stared out the window in his apartment, it was raining, and the sky was so black that if felt like that room was the only place in the world. That he was the only person in the world, and that time was the jail keeper of this prison that he had created.
Silence.
Sorry I had meant to add another chapter to Start as Friends, but I just wasn't in the mood tonight to write comedy. Thanks for reading!
