Time Beyond Measure.
Disclaimer: I own nothing. It's Tolkein's.
A/N: This story may not touch directly on speech or thought of any characters. It is my first fanfic, and I'm not sure about true characterisation yet. It is also a one-shot. Constructive criticism appreciated.
Time Beyond Measure.
The world changed.
He had always known it would. He controlled it, after all. He had sung the song that brought it into being. He knew it would change, it had to.
Still, even he had not quite expected this.
The Eldar left Middle-Earth, travelling to Valinor. The hobbits came too, and the Dwarf. They saw the Undying Lands, and were happy.
Outside that part of the world, Men flourished. They developed and fell, and devised new ways of thinking that dismissed their origins as myth.
The hobbits and Dwarves were gone. They hid, away from the destruction of their neighbours. The Ents withdrew.
And soon, the place had changed beyond recognition.
The Valar tried to shield their subjects, but eventually the technology of mankind broke even that powerful shell. The Eldar and Maiar fled, while the Valar tried to rebuild the fragment of land that had been left them.
And while they did so, the immortals came to the conclusion that man was irrevocably destructive.
He watched as they lived, realising with some surprise that they could handle it. Some of their numbers, specifically Elrond Peredhil and his kin, could adapt faster, and helped their bewildered race to survive.
They even managed to not only survive, but prevail.
He chose his time to call back others, waiting for the dark to rise again before he did so. He told one of his children to find a certain man, then spoke to Lorien- let him know of our tales.
The man wrote and published them...
He watched the world. So long since that man had died.
He brought back the souls.
A/N: Did you like it? I hope you did! Uh, in case you were wondering, Lorien is a Vala- he weaves dreams. The souls –you'll see next fic. Or maybe a few later. I personally think that Arda is a completely different world-but I had a few ideas, and I wanted to write them out.
