set from pov of a soldier during the battle.

Battle at Helm's Deep

The armies approach

And the cry is heard

All hear

All hearken

The light is disappearing

Darkness

It surrounds

It suffocates

Eternal lives are snuffed out

Hope is there

But it is not visible

The stars are there

But they are not shining

The Darkness

The darkness

Where are the stars?

The sky is slick with blood

The ground has sipped of destruction

Where is hope?

I can not see it

I cannot see through the death

The dark boding cloud that taunts me

Consumes me

The evil the hate

The eyes of the enemy

Oh how terrible

My soul is sick

My friends are dead

"Have hope!"

A voice says

"Do not give up"

I hear the words

My eyes are attacked

The image of my brother steals me

He is shot through the heart

He is falling to the weary ground

Like a cold stone it receives him

Where is hope?

Where are stars?

Hope has drowned in our sorrow

The vile has gorged on the stars

My arms are failing

My body fights me

And I can not win against the dread

I can not move against the fear

But no choice is there to strive

Just a little longer to endure

For our estranged jewels that saved us

For our former brothers that died for us

They gave up the eternal

They became ephemeral

I must honor them

Their hope was given to us

For our new age

For our survival

And at last relief comes

But as a murderer

"Retreat!"

"Retreat!"

We run

We hide ourselves

But security deceives us

And safety despises us

Where is hope?

Where are stars?

Are we all doomed?
