Bianca sat on the toilet with her hands covering her ears as though that would drown out the sound of laughter that she felt like she could still hear even in the bathroom stall.
It was horrible.
She couldn't believe that that video had spread across the student body like wildfire. Seemingly everyone had seen her making a fool out of herself inside of that mall store. She didn't know how the hell it could have landed in the wrong person's hands unless maybe someone had borrowed Wes's phone or something.
Still, her face burned as she recalled not just being laughed at, but also being pointed at. Like she was some sort of ridiculous joke or something. Okay, so maybe she didn't exactly embody coolness in any respect, but she was just trying to have some fun with Wes. Was it too much to ask that she could just be herself without the whole world not only bearing witness to it but also mocking her for it? Besides, what was so wrong with dancing and goofing off anyway? As if she was the only one who ever had any fun...
Bianca rubbed at her face as tears began to spill down her cheeks. All she ever wanted was to feel like she belonged with other people. Her friends were the hot chicks while she was the DUFF. Okay, she got the point already. She just wasn't conventionally pretty. Or attractive. And she dressed like Wreck It Ralph, according to Wes.
But she at least had some redeeming qualities, didn't she? I mean, people thought she was kind of funny. She'd been told that she was a caring person. A good friend.
...and also a DUFF.
The saddest thing was that even though she hated Wesley right now, blamed him for this even happening, she wished that she could just get a nice warm hug from him. God, there was just something about him that constantly made her want to punch and embrace him at the same time. Maybe it was his cockiness. Or his cheeky smile. Or maybe it was the fact that he was so-
At that moment Bianca heard the bathroom door swing open as someone walked inside, interrupting her thoughts. Whoever walked in entered the stall next to her and began to use it. Bianca raised her head and looked at the ceiling, trying to pull herself together. She couldn't just sit in the bathroom and hide like a coward all day. To be perfectly honest, she really didn't feel like smelling someone's farts or crap on top of everything else. Plus it had been about an hour and she'd missed most of her next class, Chemistry. Her favorite class. And not just because he was in it with her.
Bianca's face contorted into a scowl at the reminder of him.
Feeling like she couldn't take this anymore, she got up, unlocked and swung the stall door open and stormed out of the bathroom. She felt numb to the chortles that followed her as she stalked down the hallway and stopped near the entrance to Chemistry. She felt her heart pound as she reached for the doorknob. But this time the image of Wes laughing at her popped into her mind, making her retract her hand and turn away. This time she changed direction and made her way towards the exit of the high school. Maybe she was being a coward, but for now she just knew she couldn't take being in this stupid school with its stupid categorizing students. And stupid Wes.
She needed alone time.
