A/N: Hey! This is just a short little story I came up with. I hope you like it!

Usually, when Riza Hawkeye entered the office, a fake silence would emerge, a rustle of papers as the men attempted to pretend like they were doing work. However, today, nobody had to pretend, as Riza had her hands full trying to lose the dog chasing after her. And we aren't talking about Black Hayate.

It was safe for everyone to say that nobody saw this one coming. Sure, Edward bothered Mustang on a daily basis, that was normal. But this...No one bugs Riza Hawkeye. Well, unless you want to suffer in painful agony. But maybe Ed did, since he decided to follow her around all morning, spouting out his stupidly impossible theories.

Havoc leaned over to Breda and whispered, "How long do you think until she cracks?"

Breda whispers back, "Five minutes, max."

"I don't actually think she's going to crack," Fuery whispers, "She's got quite the soft spot for Ed."

"You're right. That kid gets away with loads of stuff..." Falman muttered softly. "Let's watch."

"I'm just saying it's too coincidental that your last name is Hawkeye and you're 'The Hawk's Eye'. And we all know Alchemists, such as myself, don't believe in coincidences," Ed stated in a matter-of-fact tone.

Riza kept walking straight ahead as Al said, "Actually brother, only you don't believe in coincidences. Don't categorize all alchemists based off yourself."

Ed continued as if his brother never spoke, "Whom else do we know that acts like their name, hmmm?" Ed said with mock-confusion, "I know! The Homunculi!"

"Brother..."

"Yes, Al! Riza Hawkeye is a Homunculi!"

3...2...1...

"She's going to blow. Poor kid," One of the soldiers - probably Havoc - laughed.

But, to their surprise, Riza didn't take a gun out and shoot at Ed. She didn't clock him in the head. She didn't even yell at him. She just...laughed.

The men exchanged a look; why was she laughing?

By the time her chuckle grew into a chortle, Mustang had exited his office, confused at the noise.

When he saw the smile upon his first lieutenant, his face softened. "Ah, nice to see you're back, First Lieutenant."

"Nice to be back, Sir." They exchanged a smile that the others couldn't comprehend.

Edward grinned, exceedingly smug, and turned to walk out the door, "My work is done here, Colonel. I trust even you can handle it from here."

"Hey! Wait, Fullmetal! You haven't given me-" Mustang paused as he saw Ed had already left, "your report."

"I'm so so sorry, sir! And you too, Lieutenant. Brother should not have accused you of being a humonculi of all things. You see, brother's um...I don't even really know, the point is-"

"It's okay, Alphonse. Believe it or not, Ed did know what he was doing. Though," Mustang appeased the frantic younger brother, "Do try to get him to bring in his report, okay?"

Later that evening

"You really don't have to come, sir."

"I said I would. I meant it. Either way, the kid's practically threatened me."

Riza and Roy walked through the ironically bright, grassy field. Roy slipped his hand through her's as they dove through the grey slabs sticking out of the ground, before they stopped at one. He squeezed her hand - for once, she didn't let go. After a while, she broke the silence.

"He wasn't...the best father," Riza spoke, and honestly Roy didn't know whether she was talking to him or not. Either way, he almost snorted. 'Right, because the best father engraves his alchemic research on his daughter's back.'

"But I know he did love me, he just didn't show it very well."

She leaned her head upon his shoulder - a rare show of affection.

"I'm glad that you inspired me to join the military. If not, I never would have found such an amazing family"

He smiled, "For you to think our family is amazing, you must really be feeling sentimental."

Her eyes met his, "So tell me, Colonel. Did you tell Edward to try cheering me up?"

Roy shook his head, "Do you really think he listens to me? I'm pretty sure he just knew you were upset over something and tried cheering you up. I'm glad to see it worked."

"Though, I wish he did turn in his report...but you are first priority," Mustang muttered.

"Roy?"

"Riza?"

"I'm not being sentimental. Our family is amazing."

He paused for a minute, gazing into her eyes, silently issuing a challenge for him to argue. But he never waged wars with those eyes. He never needed to.

"I know."
