CPR

Poisoned Scarlett

Haru can't breathe. He kicks his feet under the water and clutches the arms that hold him still, that pin him to the bottom of the pool. He breathes out his name but it's caught in a scatter of air bubbles, reaching the surface where no one will ever hear their plea. He shuts his eyes as Rin covers his mouth with his, grabs the free ends of his hair and tugs his head back. He breathes air into his lungs and Haru takes it, clutches him closer until there is no space between them—even the water glues them together, makes their legs tangle with each other as they sink to the bottom.

Haru digs his fingers into Rin's back, pushing against his mouth until Rin is the one gasping for air. Their eyes are unfocused under the water and their groans and gasps is so loud in their ears that Haru never wants to leave. There is an urgency building in his chest, his lungs, but Haru still lets Rin take his air from him, lets his tongue run over his teeth and lips until his head is light and his sight is fuzzy at the edges.

Then Rin grabs his hand and pulls him up, a rush of water like the rapids in the mountainsides, and then there is air all around and Haru is gasping it in, gulping deep, greedy breathes as Rin slides his arm around him and laughs deeply in his ear. Rin's head leans against his and a strand of maroon hair falls over Haru's eye.

"How was that for CPR?"

"Makoto would tell you," Haru pants, his arm resting around Rin's waist. His face is flushed but his cerulean eyes are light, "you're doing it all wrong."

Rin scoffs. "What does that guy know. As far as I know, that's the right way to do it," he smirks against his cheek. "Right, Haru?"

Haru parts his lips to reply, but doesn't get very far before another voice pitches in.

"Heeey! Haru-chan! Rin—eh? What are you guys doing so close to each other?" Nagisa brakes to a stop by the pools edge, eying them both suspiciously.

"Rin was drowning," Haru deadpans.

"EHH?! Idiot, I wasn't drowning! You were the one—!"

"Ahh. So even Rin-chan drowns, huh?"

"Oi! Don't believe everything this guy says!"

Haru drops his arm from around Rin's waist and swims to the edge of the pool, ignoring the two boys who bicker between each other. He runs his fingers through his long hair and chances a glance back at Rin, whose face has become as dark red as his hair at Nagisa's teasing, and smiles faintly, his blue eyes glowing under the bright summer sun.
