Every story has an ending. Some are happy. Some are tragic. Some are just confusing-I mean, Rosebud was a sled? What's up with that? Oh, sorry, did I just spoil the ending of the greatest movie of all time? Well, too bad.
This story was never meant to end happily. You all, the readers, knew it. This was never going to end with Sam and Dean Winchester dying peacefully in their beds at age ninety. No, when it ends for them, it ends in tragedy. This is not a happy story.
And I know you think I'm cruel for what I'm about to do to them (sorry, no spoilers), but really, what were you expecting? If I waved my hand and fixed everything so that their lives were perfect and the world was beautiful, that would be a cheat, wouldn't it? You'd all be ranting and raving about how much of a letdown it was. Fifteen years of blood and death, and it ends like a freaking fairy tale? Yeah, not happening. I'm not about to do that to you. I respect my readers too much to cheat them out of the ending this story deserves.
I will promise you one thing, though: when they die, all three of them, they'll die together. No more of this sacrificing themselves for each other. Nope, this is it. The final death. The one that no one comes back from. No more do-overs. No more resurrections. Been there, done that.
And don't yell at me about Jack. Come on, he had it coming! He killed Mary! Did you really think that could be forgiven? No, he had to die. That's what we do with monsters. I mean, what the Winchesters do. Sorry, sometimes I identify with my characters a little too much. It's not that I couldn't bring his soul back, it's just that . . . yeah, didn't want to. I know I'm supposed to be forgiving and all that, but I'm done with that, too. Some things just can't be let go.
So this is how it ends. They're going to die. Painfully. Messily. I haven't quite worked out the details yet, but I know it's going to happen. Because the story demands it.
The famous final scene. Sacrificing their lives to save the whole world. Yeah, that's how it goes.
Just keep reading, cause it's gonna be one hell of a ride.
