Skin-to-Skin Contact
Sunlight streamed through the half-opaque curtains. It fell unevenly across the large bed and announced the start of a new day.
Lily Potter woke up to find herself encircled in the arms of her husband. His eyes were still closed, but she could still tell that he was awake, for at that moment, he laughed out loud, unable to conceal the fact that he'd been stroking her hair, nuzzling her neck, and dropping kisses on her face while she was asleep.
"Morning, sleepy-head."
"James."
His name rung in her ears, and she lay in awe of how it still brought feelings of passion and love to her.
"How's the baby?"
Lily smiled, and instinctively, reached a hand out towards her swollen abdomen. "He's perfectly fine."
"He? I thought it was a she...? I would love to have a daughter to spoil...And I also need a new punching bag, 'cause Sirius has gotten stronger in the past few years...her boyfriend will do nicely.
"Yet, as a marauder, I'd also like a son to pass on the ingenious pranks, and sexy hair to."
Lily laughed at him. Typical James, typical marauder, typical soon-to-be dad.
"I swear, on your grave, that if my son's first word is anything...explicit, that you will die a very pain-filled, gruesome death, James Potter."
He winked at her, and said, "Lily, dearest, you should know by now that marauders never reveal their secrets..."
They had nothing more to say for the moment, and then Lily shifted. "You know, you're kind of like a baby yourself, James."
He feigned hurt, and exclaimed, "Lily! I thought we were past the stage of insults...A LONG time ago..."
"Yes, but we're headed towards the 'loving and caring' stage...I'm only stating the truth".
He feigned hurt once more, but she silenced him. "Now, going back to what I said, you're kinda a baby, James. You whine, and wail when something's wrong, and you can't take care of yourself. However, like babies, you love everyone around you—
"Except Snivillus."
"—Except Severus, and you're childly innocent."
He raised his eyebrows at her. "You call that bathtub incident innocent?"
She smiled, remembering. "Good point, but you have that definite line between right and wrong."
He kissed her, and she continued. "You also enjoy skin-to-skin contact." She smirked at him.
"Hmm...like this?" She squealed as he pulled her closer to him, and their bodies molded.
"Yes, like that."
He was just about to respond in a way that would initiate passionate lovemaking, but he felt a small force at his stomach. Lily seemed to have felt it too, because she put her hand to her stomach again. She looked up at James, and started laughing.
He just stared at her, and her stomach in awe. That was the first time, ever, he'd felt their unborn baby kick.
"He must not like you, to be kicking you this early..." Lily said between laughs.
He started tickling her, light enough so that she didn't flail about and hurt their baby, but hard enough so that she continued laughing.
And so started another typical day in the Potter household.
