All That Matters Now

He looks at her face and sighs. It is expressionless now that she's asleep and he can see all those premature lines caused by the war. The ones her emotions usually hide. He reaches his hand up and lightly traces one with his finger. For the millionth time he curses that damn war for stealing their youth, their innocence, and taking away the carefree years they should have had.

Gradually his hand moves its way down her body and comes to rest on her bulging stomach. He allows himself to smile. Because the war is over. They are no longer burdened with the constant awareness that they or someone they love might die. They no longer live in fear. They both survived, and she is laying next to him, carrying their child inside her. And to them, that's all that matters now.

I realize that this idea isn't all that original, and has probably been done by much better writers but it's my first fanfiction so please review and be kind about it. Also, this can pertain to any couple that survived either war.
