The Piano

„Victoria?" Victor called when he came home one evening. His parents had bought them a nice house in the country – they were pleased to be part of the aristocracy now and wanted to show their wealth…

"Yes, Victor?" she replied and came into the hallway to greet him.

They had been married for a month now and were still as happy as ever.

"I brought us something" he said. "Or better they do."

Two man came into the house carrying something big and obviously heavy. "Where?" one of them asked.

"In the living room, please" Victor directed and Victoria opened the door for them.

There the man cautiously dropped the huge thing and started unpacking it.

"What is this?" Victoria wanted to know.

"It's a piano" Victor grinned happily.

"A piano?!" she screamed excited and when he nodded she just hugged him firmly.

"You like it?"

"Of course I do!" She looked him smiling in the eye. "I always wanted to play but mother never allowed it." Suddenly her face fell. "I am allowed to play here, am I not?"

"Of course you are, my dear."

"But… I can't play anything…"

"Yet. Don't worry. I'll help you and soon you'll play very well. You'll see."

"Thank you, Victor" she said solemnly.

"I love you." He took her gently in his arms.

She placed her head on his chest and sighed thoroughly happy: "I love you, too."

On the next evening when Victor came home he could already hear her play. It wasn't a very complex tune but still it was lovely and it warmed his heart. He sadly smiled as this reminded him of Emily but he knew that she was happy wherever she was at the moment. He didn't know why – he just knew it deep in his heart.

THE END.
