Aburame Shino is well aware of the fact that his teammate Hinata harbors a huge crush on Uzumaki Naruto. In fact, everyone's aware of this fact, except maybe Naruto himself; Hinata is incredibly obvious and the only reason Naruto keeps missing the signals is because he is, by the same token, incredibly oblivious.

And now, now Hinata has spelled it out in terms even Naruto can't fail to understand; she's attempted to sacrifice her life to save his during the Akatsuki's invasion and shouted her love of Naruto for all the village to hear. The aforementioned village all agree that it's only a mater of time before Naruto has to acknowledge that Hinata said something to him that day, even if he has been thus far behaving as though the conversation never took place.

Personally, Shino can't say he likes these developments very much.

When, he asks himself, when has Naruto so much as noticed Hinata without another pointing her out first or having her being the only thing to focus on to start with? Shino confidently answers "never". This might be excusable for another considering how shy and standoffish Hinata tends to be, but considering how hard she's tried to catch Naruto's attention, he ought to have noticed by now.

No, instead Hinata is invisible to Naruto and Shino… Shino is frustrated. Beyond all belief, really, though his facial expression remains on the "calm to the point of being bored" setting. And he's come to the conclusion that Naruto is completely unsuitable for Hinata.

He's not jealous, really. And he doesn't hold a grudge either. Sure, Naruto can't remember Shino's name to save his life and sure, Naruto managed in five minutes when he and Hinata first met to get the attention and keep it of the girl Shino had been trying to get the attention of for years. Shino has often been left to wonder just how being eye-catching comes so easily to Naruto and all he can assume is that it has something to do with all the orange he wears and the sheer volume with which he talks. Sadly, Shino does not have these routes to travel as he hates orange and his voice won't rise above a certain octave anyway.

Sometimes it makes his eye twitch a little bit when Hinata starts to daydream because it's obvious as to what and who she's daydreaming about. Kiba snorts and elbows Shino in the ribs to drive the point home (Kiba happens to be an in-house shipper and he seems absolutely intent on finding some way to get Naruto to notice Hinata. Shino says good luck with that; the only way anyone could get Naruto to notice Hinata would be, well, they've already tried that and it didn't go so well). Really, Shino's eye only twitches because he's gotten a bit of dust stuck in there again, and no one can see it besides.

Hinata really deserves better; Shino's found an ally in that in the form of her father, at least.

So really, Shino isn't jealous. He just think Hinata deserves better than a guy who barely registers her existence from day to day.

That and the fact that Naruto once ran from his swarm back when they were genin. It wasn't like the kikai were actually going to hurt him; Shino just had them running reconnaissance. If he runs from kikai, then it's likely he'll run from commitment too. Everybody knows that.

Everybody but Hinata.

To Shino's hopeless, eternal, face-meets-palm consternation.
