Why I Rejected You

Spoilers: Doctor's Daughter, Doomsday

Note: This could explain why the Doctor originally rejected Jenny, just a thought and a few touching words from father to daughter.

Jenny,

I know you'll never read this but I wanted to tell you some things and it seemed pointless to speak to a grave with Martha and Donna watching.

First of all, I love you very much, and second, as a father, I have a duty to name you. Donna gave you a name but it's not the birth name every Gallifreyan receives the day they are born. I can only think of one name, one beautiful and truthful name to give you…

Bellonastria, daughter of the Doctor, child of Gallifrey

Your name means 'warrior among stars' in Gallifreyan, that's my language. As for finishing your name, your common name, that took a few hours…you have some much of my Bonded Soul in you.

Her name was Rose; she was my wife, by Earth tradition and the other half to my soul, by Gallifreyan tradition. I lost her almost two Earth years ago…it hurt and I only had wished she had gotten to meet you in your short life, you would have loved her and she would have called you 'daughter' the first moment you stepped out of the machine.

She's the reason I originally resisted claiming you as my child, your looks were strong in resemblance of her yet your attitude…an exact match. You have her strength and determination, a will to protect me with your life…it almost caused her death more than a few hundred times.

But your eyes, they had a curiosity to them, a beautiful and pure curiosity to them that matched her. Sure, the color came probably from my mother but everything else was there…it was like staring at her after so long. Then I remembered she'd have given me a slap for rejecting you, I could no longer reject you because I would be rejecting her. Everything of her is in you, except her soul…which I still feel at times if I concentrate hard enough.

I never regret you Jenny and you aren't an echo…I know that now, after it's too late to really tell you. My child, my beautiful Time Lady child, you had the universe ahead of you and you were snatched from me just like she was. The only difference this time is that she lives in a parallel world alive and thriving and you, you lie dead because of your selfless actions.

I was supposed to protect you, as a father but I failed and I shall never forgive myself. I could have regenerated but you…you could not. Oh if your mother could have seen you, she'd have given you a slap. Yes, as my Bonded Soul, she has every legal right to be called your mother, despite universes keeping us apart. So this is the name I leave you…a name of your mother's.

Jenny Rosillia Tyler

Your Father,

The Doctor

A/N: Should I make a sequel where Jenny returns and finds the note? Should she become as curious as the Doctor and try to find her 'mother' and try to reunite them?

Sequel: Family Reunited, up and in process
