Give me a break
Hey peoples! Just a little brain-warming one-shot as I prepare to update 'and were back'. Hopefully, I'll update tonight. Enjoy! Oh, and there's a special cameo appearance of socks900!
Disclaimer: I do not own Camp Rock. I do own all OC's and the plot.
Nate sat at his desk, slouching low enough to avoid bringing attention to himself. He mindlessly started picking an invisible piece of lint off his pants, wondering how the day will go. It was his first day of high school, something that both excited him and terrified him.
Nate was so into his thoughts, he didn't notice the girl that plopped herself in the seat in front of him.
"Hey, Uncle Nate."
A bunch of kids in the class chuckled, bringing undue attention to Nate. He slinked down even further in his seat. The girl gave him an innocent smile, but Nate knew better. He could detect the devilish glint in her eyes.
"Alright class, settle down. My name is Mr Ross, and I'll be your Social Studies teacher for the semester. Now, I'm going to take attendance…"
Nate drowned out Mr Ross' rambling and instead focused on his classmates. Most seem to have forgotten the incident, but there were still a few whispers and glances in his direction.
"Gray… oh, what do we have here?"
Nate's head shot up instantly at the sound of his name.
"Nathan and Naomi Gray. How nice to have twins in the class!"
Naomi cleared her throat. "Actually, were not. Were--"
Nate kicked the back of her leg.
"Were not twins, Mr Ross" She finished lamely. As soon as her teacher turned his gaze away, she turned around and glared at the boy behind her.
Nate was prepared with his best innocent smile.
Lunchtime
In the cafeteria line, Naomi was busy chatting up a random girl from their class. Nate stood directly behind them, scowling. It wasn't fair that he had a hard time making friends, while Naomi was already talking with… Nate already forgot her name. Natasha? Nadia? Nancy?
"Yo Nate. You there?" Naomi waved her hand in front of Nate. He brushed it away.
"What?" He said a little more harshly than intended.
"Natalie was asking you a question, Mr-Grouchy-Pants."
Nate ignored the jibe and turned to Natalie.
"…never mind." She said, followed by a quick get-away to a nearby table.
"Great. You scared her. There goes my one chance of making a friend that's not you." Naomi said with a glare.
Nate held up his hands in surrender. "Sorry!"
Naomi rolled her eyes and sat down with her tray at an empty table. Nate followed and sat across from her.
"Look, I'm sorry, okay? It's just that so far today, nothing has gone right. If this is what the rest of the year is gonna be like, I'll scream." Nate finished his rant, and waited expectantly for an answer.
"Tell you what", Naomi started, "I'll forgive you, I even won't call you Uncle at school--" Nate shot her a look. "In public, if you do my homework for a week." She finished with a smile.
"Deal." Nate said. They shook hands and returned to their meal.
"Uncle Nate!" Shane yelled across the cafeteria.
Nate groaned and rubbed his temples. This was gonna be a long year.
