Disclaimer: I own books, but I don't OWN the books... J K Rowling does that...
I used a song from the popular Broadway Musical/Movie, Rent: Without You. It is either the greatest love song, or the greatest 'I miss you' song ever written.
Enjoy...
Hermione stood on the edge of a cliff. It was the place where Ron had proposed to her. The smell of the salt, candles, and roses came back to her.
Without you, the ground thaws, the rain falls, the grass grows.
Before the battle with Voldemort.
The wind whipped at her, taking her tears and spreading them across the world. The sea grew restless.
Without you, the seeds root, the flowers bloom.
He was her life… They both were. Voldemort had taken everything from her – her best friend, her family, her home… her love. Cedric Diggory, Dumbledore, Ron, Harry, the entire Weasley family… Her own family…
The children play. The stars gleam, the poets dream, the eagles fly, without you.
But nobody cared. The muggle world turned its back on her, and the wizard world blamed her.
The earth turns, the sun burns, but I die, without you.
Ron was gone… "I'd die for you, Hermione…"
"YOU WEREN'T SUPPOSED TO MEAN IT!" She screamed at the world. "You weren't supposed to mean it…"
Without you, the breeze warms, the girl smiles, the cloud moves.
Below her, the ocean thrashed the rocks. "I meant it Hermione… I told you I'd die for you…"
Without you, the tides change, the boys run, the oceans crash.
"Help me… I can't live like this anymore… I don't want to live anymore. Not without you."
She fell to her knees and wept all the tears that she hadn't been able to cry.
The crowds roar, the days soar, the babies cry, without you.
The moon glows, the river flows, but I die, without you.
She looked up, and sang to the setting sun. She sang out her pain, her anger, her grief. She sang about her broken heart, and her empty soul.
A hand touched her shoulder, and she looked up into the very eyes that had killed Ron.
"Malfoy," she said coldly.
The world revives, colours renew,
But I know blue, only blue, lonely blue, within me blue.
"I'm so sorry, Hermione. It wasn't my fault, you must believe me!" he said, desperately. "You aren't the only one that has loved and lost… Remember, he hurt everyone."
"But you killed Ron! I loved him, and you killed him!"
Without you. Without you the hand gropes, the ear hears, the pulse beats.
"Hermione, I was under a spell. You know that. You were the one to break it."
"I killed him…" She turned back to the sea. "Did you know that we were engaged? He came here, and asked me to marry him. After four years of loving him, he finally asked me. And I saved you, not him…"
Without you, the eyes gaze, the legs walks, the lungs breath.
The mind churns…
The heart yearns…
"Goodbye, Malfoy."
"Hermione, I can't let you do this."
"Malfoy, if you could do anything you wanted, in the world, what would you do?" She wiped her eyes with her sleeve.
The tears dry, without you.
"I'd swim in the oceans until I grew gills and learned to breathe under water. What would you do?"
Life goes on, but I'm gone.
'Cause I die, without you.
"I'd fly."
She spread her arms, and breathed in the salty air.
Without you.
"Goodbye, Malfoy."
Without you.
She took a step forward, and disappeared from his sight.
Draco Malfoy wiped his eyes clear of the first tears that he had ever cried.
"But Hermione," he said with a sad smile after she had gone, "I thought you were afraid to fly?"
Without you.
