Disclaimer: I do not own Pirates of the Caribbean, Disney does. Which is so unfair, by the way, but what can ya do, eh? :P

A/N: This is my first PotC fic, so be nice! No flames please!

Anamaria stood in the crow's nest of the Black Pearl, gazing out at the horizon. The sun was slowly setting, its red-gold glow reflected in the calm ocean below. Shades of red and purple streaked across the sky, where the stars were beginning to emerge, glittering faintly in the growing darkness. Sighing lightly, she looked down at the deck below her, watching as the rest of the crew scurried around, performing their duties. She could see Jack at the helm, surveying his crew in an attempted authorative look that just didn't work for him. She sighed again, leaning forward and resting her elbows on the wall of the crow's nest, and brushed her long black hair away from her face. She loved being at sea, especially on a ship like the Black Pearl, but it got so boring sometimes. She needed something to liven things up, but what?

She leaned further over the side of the crow's nest, gazing out towards the blue ocean. There was no land on the horizon, just endless blue water. Or so she thought.

Suddenly, the boat shook violently, as the bottom of the ship hit rocks underneath the surface of the water, and tilted over sharply. Anamaria cried out, flung out of the crow's nest and over the side of the ship. She hit the water with a loud splash, and thrashed about, desperately trying to reach the surface again. Finally surfacing again, she desperately tried to reach the ship, but couldn't, constantly being dragged back under the waves by the strong current. She struggled to surface again, her body weakening through lack of oxygen, and finally lost consciousness.

"Woman overboard!!" Gibbs shouted, and the whole crew rushed to the side of the boat, Jack behind them.

"Woman!??" He exclaimed, his face paling as he looked down at the water, desperately trying to see her through the waves. "Anamaria, no!!" He gasped under his breath, before pulling off his jacket, hat and weapons, laying them down on the deck before walking back over to the side of the boat. Gibbs caught his arm and stopped him, frowning with concern.

"You mustn't go after her, Cap'n, you'll not make it fer sure!" He said, and Jack pulled his arm free from Gibbs' grip, shaking his head.

"Neither will Ana if I don't find her," he said simply, then dove off the side of the ship and into the cold, murky waters below.
