Under the stars
Winhill 1981
The hill overlooking the small village of Winhill was a solitary place, few ever climbed it, but those that did found that the view of the night sky was simply stunning much like someone.
This night, however, it would host a momentous occasion or so the long black haired man holding a simple but elegant navy box hoped it would.
After several not so successful attempts, he had decided tonight was the night, there was no one around and it was in her favorite spot under the stars. There would be no villagers to jeer or frown in disgust just him and Raine alone together. Still, he had to wonder if the villagers were right about them, perhaps Raine deserved better, would she laugh at him or what if he dropped the box, he'd look a right fool…
Whilst these scenarios flowed into his mind, he failed to notice the presence of another their dark shadow growing larger by the second till he found himself face to face with Raine.
The gentle yet curious smile on her face made his doubts disappear and he himself founded himself smiling like a lovesick schoolboy.
Raine nudged him snapping Laguna out of it, he fumbled in his pockets for the box.
Raine raised an eyebrow "Laguna I found your note, why is it you asked me up here?"
"I thought you'd like to watch the stars…"he fumbled pointing to the sky with his left hand.
"They're beautiful Laguna but did you really call me up here just to see the stars, if so I'd brought Ellone along to"
Laguna shook his head, then snuck the small box out of his pocket to his side "Raine I brought you out here because I...I"
His leg was cramping again... Not now!
Raine could see Laguna was hiding something yet he looked in pain, was he nervous, why would he be so nervous?
"What's got into you today, secret notes, daydreaming, you have been acting odd all day?"Raine asked while gently helping him down to sit on the grass.
Laguna smiled awkwardly before summoning his courage "Raine when I was in Deljing City... I didn't just buy supplies…"
"This is for you…"he said, placing the elegant box into her hands.
Raine curiously opened the box her heart beating faster as she took in the sight of a silver ring with a small encrusted with a small diamond.
Raine looked between the ring and Laguna surprise in her voice "This is too much…"
Laguna shook his head "Raine I know I'm not the strongest or the most intelligent man, but if you will… Will you marry me?"
Raines surprise turned back to the gentle smile she usually wore "Laguna... I don't know what to say... Well, yes of course I will"
"Even with all my faults... I mean the villagers won't like it…"Laguna backtracked seeing her hesitation.
Raine laughed and chided him "I'll marry you faults and all Laguna".
Lagunas face lit up and he stood up slip the ring on his beloved one finger, Raines cheeks flushed as he did.
"The stars really came out for us tonight didn't they…" He murmured as he embraced Raine in a hug.
"Shouldn't we go back to Ellie and tell her the good news" Raine suggested.
"Let's stay out here a bit longer…"
"Yes, lets…"
